Shanghai Airlines reçoit son premier A 321. Nouvel utilisateur Airbus.

During a ceremony held at Hamburg, Germany, Shanghai Airlines has taken delivery of its first Airbus aircraft, an A321, becoming a new operator of Airbus aircraft. The aircraft is the first of 10 A321s ordered by the Shanghai-based carrier in 2006 and 2007.

Powered by IAE V2533-A5 engines, the carrier’s first A321 is fitted in an all-new, comfortable two-class configuration with 178 seats (166 seats in Economy, 12 in Business Class). The aircraft will initially be deployed on domestic routes followed in the future by regional routes including Japan and Korea.

“Introducing A321s to our fleet was a strategic decision for Shanghai Airlines in anticipation of the future growth of the domestic as well as international air traffic market,” said Zhou Chi, Chairman of Shanghai Airlines. “After 20 years
of fast, steady and all round development, Shanghai Airlines is becoming an international airline based in the regional hub of Shanghai. The introduction of the highly reliable and efficient Airbus A320 Family aircraft will help Shanghai Airlines to expand its new base, develop domestic routes network and increase capacity in order to meet increasing passenger demand,” added Zhou.

Shanghai Airlines was set up in 1985. Headquartered in Shanghai, the carrier now operates 68 aircraft on more than 170 domestic, regional and international passenger and freighter routes linking over 60 destinations across China
and around the world. Shanghai Airlines is a member of the Star Alliance.

The A320 Family is recognised as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. With more than 6,300 aircraft sold, and over 3,900 aircraft delivered to more than 300 customers and operators worldwide, the A320 Family is the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family. With proven reliability and extended servicing periods, the A320 Family has the lowest operating costs of any single aisle aircraft. The Family comprises four aircraft (A318, A319, A320 and A321) that share unique cockpit and operational commonality across the range.

The A321 is the largest member of the Airbus A320 Family. It typically seats 185 passengers in a two-class layout and has a non-stop flying range of 3,000 nautical miles or 5,550 kilometres.

By the end of May 2009, almost 400 A320 Family aircraft are in operation with 12 operators in China. Chinese airlines have ordered close to 600 A320 Family aircraft in total.

La Civil Aviation Administration of China, CAAC, donne son aval à l'acquisition de Shanghai Airlines par China Eatsern

CAAC last week approved China Eastern Airlines' acquisition of Shanghai Airlines, according to CEA GM Ma Xulun.

The merger still requires the approval of both carriers' shareholders, but CEA said it has started the merger process and expects the transaction to be completed by year end [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]. A shareholders conference is
planned for Oct. 9 to consider and vote on the merger and approval is expected.

"The total fleet of CEA and SAL is more than 300 aircraft, so we plan to make a more reasonable utilization of these aircraft during winter and spring flight schedules," Ma said.
He revealed that CEA plans to promote Express Air Service to denote high frequency on the 22 routes the carriers share. "On some routes the daily frequencies will be boosted to 14. That is, a flight will be operated every half hour," he said.

Huang Bin, board secretary for Beijing-based Air China, said, "CEA's merger with SAL will definitely change the competition scenario of the Shanghai air transport market." But he affirmed that it won't affect CA's
determination to make Shanghai its international gateway.

He added that CA will "accelerate the preparation process with Cathay Pacific Airways to launch a cargo JV based in Shanghai"[Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien].
CA VP Fan Cheng told reporters last week that the asset valuation for the JV is "nearing an end," paving the way for it to be launched by year end.

Shanghai Airlines déclare une petite perte au troisième trimestre.

Shanghai Airlines suffered a CNY42.7 million ($6.2 million) loss in the third quarter, narrowed 90.2% from a CNY437.5 million deficit in the year-ago period.
Operating revenue jumped 14.9% to CNY3.62 billion while expenses rose 6% to CNY3.81 billion. SAL cited a decline in passenger boardings caused by the global financial crisis, stricter security measures taken prior to China's Oct. 1 national holiday and falling fares as the culprits.
It also cited a CNY50 million loss at its Shanghai Airlines Cargo International subsidiary. SAL holds a 55% stake of SAL Cargo and injected CNY110 million into the carrier in August.
The comapny's nine-month loss of CNY133.9 million compared to a CNY432.3 million deficit in the first nine months of 2008. Revenue fell 10.9% to CNY9.06 billion.

La fusion China Eastern-Shangai Airlines approuvée.

Chinese regulators have approved the merger between China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai Airlines.
China Eastern received the approval from the China Securities Regulatory Commission on 30 December, says the Shanghai-based carrier.
The airline's board will proceed with the relevant procedures to complete the merger, adds the carrier.
China Eastern offered to take over rival Shanghai in July in a 9 billion yuan ($1.3 billion) deal. It recently completed a sale of shares, which raised 6.4 billion yuan, to fund the acquisition.

Shangai Airlines quitte la Star Alliance. Fusion avec China Eastern !

L’avenir de Shanghai Airlines dans Star Alliance était incertain depuis quelques mois.

Cette fois, le divorce est entamé : l’alliance mondiale de compagnies aériennes a annoncé le 29 juillet que la compagnie chinoise allait la quitter le 31 octobre.

Cette décision fait suite à la fusion de Shanghai Airlines avec China Eastern.

Le rapprochement aurait pu être sans conséquence sur sa participation à Star Alliance si cette dernière n’avait pas choisi en avril dernier d’intégrer SkyTeam.

Dès cet instant, Shanghai Airlines pouvait difficilement rester dans une alliance concurrente.

Shanghai Airlines était officiellement devenue membre de Star Alliance en décembre 2007, en même temps qu’Air China.

La compagnie n’a pas encore indiqué si elle comptait intégrer SkyTeam.

Star Alliance compte quelques 27 membres : Lutfhansa, Air Canada, SIA, Air China, THY, UAL, TAM, SAA, ANA, Asiana, US Airways..etc.

Shanghai Airlines withdraws from Star, set to join SkyTeam with China Eastern

China Eastern Airlines said that its wholly owned subsidiary Shanghai Airlines has withdrawn from the Star Alliance to join SkyTeam along with CEA next year.
CEA signed a formal agreement with SkyTeam in June and is scheduled to gain membership in 2011. Shanghai's departure had been expected after it agreed to merge with CEA. SAL's network will add 32 destinations to the grouping's network.
SkyTeam MD Marie-Joseph Male said, "The addition of the combined networks of China Eastern and Shanghai Airlines gives new opportunities for SkyTeam customers to access cities in all regions of China using Shanghai's Pudong and Hongqiao airports." CEA acquired SAL last year.
SkyTeam also counts China Southern Airlines as a member. China Airlines, based in Taipei, is additionally expected to join the alliance in 2011.

Shangai Airlines signe pour deux Boeing 737-800 avec GECAS

SHANGHAI, January 28, 2011 –

GE Capital Aviation Services Limited (GECAS), the commercial aircraft leasing and financing arm of GE, today announced delivery of two new Boeing 737-86N aircraft to Shanghai Airlines Company.

Last year, China Eastern Airlines and Shanghai announced plans to merge, with Shanghai operating as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

GECAS leases a total of 32 aircraft to both carriers.

The delivery comes from GECAS’ existing order book with Boeing.
