CSA prend de nouvelles mesures avec son plan d'action 2009, conséquence de la chutte de trafic.

Le plan d'action 2009 :

The 2009 Action Plan Czech Airlines introduced its 2009 Action Plan last December.
The Plan includes measures aimed at generating additional revenue and reducing costs. The first three quick-win projects have already been successfully implemented and are generating their first revenue. Projects such as supplementary in-flight sales, in addition to the complimentary menu, or the sale of advantageous insurance with
tickets, are already generating income. Czech Airlines expects much from a modern flight management system, using the so-called origin-destination method. Czech Airlines is planning to implement this system at the end of the summer,
which will allow for price optimisation, not on individual transit routes, but on the basis of the point of origin and destination of the trip. The revenue achieved thanks to this project could approximate CZK 200 million this year alone.

In addition to measures aimed at generating additional revenue, the Airline has also persisted in putting pressure on its costs, in spite of the fact that Czech Airlines’ costs have noted significant cuts in the last three years of restructuring. The aim of the 2009 Action Plan is to achieve overall cost savings in excess of CZK 300 million this year. Last year, CZK 559 million was saved by the re-tendering of contracts; this year, there is potential to reduce the costs of the services or work provided by suppliers by a further CZK 443 million.

Wages on the 2008 Level

Savings were not neglected in the sphere of personnel costs, either. The airline’s management came to agreement with eight out of the nine trade unions, on a reduction of wages to last year’s level. In the profession that falls under the Union Organisation of Aircraft Mechanics, where agreement was not reached, Czech Airlines resorted to layoffs, which ensured the required five-percent reduction in wage costs.

Czech Airlines’ management responded to the crisis in aviation last December, when the members of the Management Board and Supervisory Board reduced their salaries by 15 percent. Approximately one hundred managers had their salaries frozen at the 2008 level.

The core of the project lies in the adaptation of the flight schedule in connection with the current development of demand for air carriage, measures on the side of costs and revenue, and optimisation of the Czech Airlines fleet.

“We performed a drastic and successful restructuring three years ago, and drastic steps await us today at Czech Airlines, as well; but they will be different and done differently, corresponding to the present market developments. Whereas three years ago, Czech Airlines was in a crisis in the midst of an economic expansion, today, we are in the midst of a crisis that has reduced the aviation market by 20% in one year. Airlines, in their 2009 size, are competing on a market that is the size it was in 2005. That is why we have to continue to optimise Czech Airlines and adapt it to the reality and the market conditions,” said the airline’s President, Radomír Lašák, in commenting on Czech Airlines’
measures, adding: “In spite of the emotions that will accompany the unpopular optimising steps, we have to take those steps. The companies that remain on the market will not be those that are the most beautiful, largest, and strongest, but those that are able to adapt the best and the fastest.

Exit AF.KLM donc, resterait Unimex, Air Travel Sces

Le plan d'action 09 est poursuivi, voire accéléré

Sur Transportweekly :

Czech Airlines is carrying on in the acceleration of its 2009 Action Plan.
The individual parts of the restructuring project were discussed by the Czech Airlines Supervisory Board on Monday.

The Board unanimously adopted all of the proposed resolutions. The measures respond to the unfavourable situation in the aviation business, which is still not improving, and to the need to adapt as flexibly as possible to the external circumstances.
The goal is to ensure that the Airline would get through the crisis year of 2009 and enable its growth in the years to come.
“These measures, if they are carried out immediately and thoroughly, will adapt the company permanently to the new market conditions and ensure Czech Airlines a profit as early as in 2010 and 2011, in the order of hundreds of millions of crowns,” said Radomír Lašák, the President of Czech Airlines, and added: “It is
more than clear that there is no other way to reach the goal.
Other airlines are struggling with the same task.”

The plan is based on an adaptation of the flight schedules for the 2009/2010 winter season and another four seasons, when Czech Airlines will operate on a market that has been reduced by the crisis.
For its operations, Czech Airlines will use 44 aircraft in the upcoming period.
That is why it is proposing the sale of three Boeing 737 aircraft, which will also help the company to obtain sufficient cash for the winter, so-called low, season of 2009 and 2010.
In the spring, two A310 aircraft will be returned after the completion of their operative leasing.
Connected to this change is a personnel reduction of the company in the following ratio: management minus 20%, and other personnel costs minus 15%.

The network effect and long-haul carriage retained

The restructuring plan involves more than just the downsizing of the Airline and cost cuts. The measures also include pro-income projects and the responses of Czech Airlines to the new market conditions in this sphere.
Czech Airlines will focus even more on the growing market of “sixth freedoms” in Europe, and is planning a new approach to market segmentation and a corresponding product adaptation.
The Airline will also enhance the use of alternative sales distribution channels, and focus on obtaining new markets and on an expansion outside of the Czech Republic, primarily in charter carriage.

By the discontinuation of the New York service, Czech Airlines is not ceasing to be a long-haul carrier.
It continues to operate six long-haul routes to the East and is planning to carry on in this development, which is the most advantageous both geographically and in terms of sales.
Czech Airlines naturally remains a network carrier. The Airline is not ridding itself of any key slots, whether at Prague Airport or at other destinations. But it will fly less frequently to certain destinations.

Yield per passenger dropping globally

According to Czech Accounting Standards, Czech Airlines reported a loss of CZK 1.826 billion for 1-6/2009, and the drop compared to plan is entirely due to income from carriage. According to international accounting standards, its loss as at the end of June amounted to USD 99.6 million.
The worsened result, as compared to the original plan, was caused primarily by the crisis in aviation and the decline of income from carriage, by over one billion crowns compared to plan.
A significant cause is the drop in prices due to competition and changes in passenger behaviour. There has been a shift in passengers to lower booking classes. In the summer months, the so-called yield, i.e., income per passenger, therefore dropped significantly, both as compared to last year and to the plan for 2009. Although in summer months, the number of passengers carried grew temporarily, and in terms of figures, reached the planned values, the number of passengers carried since the beginning of 2009 dropped by 9.6%.
It is therefore evident that the relatively optimistic numbers of passengers carried cannot stop the falling revenues.

La direction de CSA entérine la vente de 5 B 737 Classics.

Qui en veut ?
CSA doit trouver des solutions de liquidités, le gouvernement tchèque semblant peu enclin à verser des aides

The board of the troubled Czech national carrier CSA has approved a plan to sell five planes and other assets in efforts to generate cash.

The airline said in a statement Wednesday it plans to sell its three Boeing 737-500s and two Boeing 737-400s as well as its duty free unit, and secure loans from banks to get up to 5 billion koruna ($286 million) in the next nine moths.

The airline didn't say how much cash it needs.

The government plans to sell its 91.5 percent stake at the airline but Czech consortium Unimex-Travel Service, the only bidder in the latest public tender, has offered only 1 billion Czech koruna ($57 million) for the airline, far below what the Czech government said it expected earlier this year.

The caretaker Czech government of Jan Fischer should decide in the coming weeks whether to accept the offer. The airline had already said it would lay off up to 860 employees and plans to announce further "drastic" cuts next week.

Czech Airlines is a member of the SkyTeam Alliance that includes Air France-KLM.
