US Airways : US : AWE
Résultats Q2 d'US Airways group .
US Airways Group, Inc. today announced June, second quarter and year-to-date 2009 traffic results.
Mainline revenue passenger miles (RPMs) for the month were 5.4 billion, down 4.1 percent versus June 2008. Capacity was 6.3 billion available seat miles (ASMs), down 6.1 percent versus June 2008. Passenger load factor for the month of June was a record 86.8 percent, up 1.8 points versus June 2008.
US Airways President Scott Kirby said, "Our June consolidated (mainline and Express) passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) was down approximately 20 percent versus the same period last year while total revenue per available seat mile only decreased approximately 18 percent on a year-over-year basis. These declines in unit revenues are driven by weaker demand for business travel and lower leisure yields as a result of the global economic recession.”
For the month of June, US Airways’ preliminary on-time performance as reported to the U.S. Department of
Transportation (DOT) was 78.0 percent with a completion factor of 98.9 percent.
The following summarizes US Airways Group’s traffic results for the month, quarter and year-to-date consisting of mainline operated flights as well as US Airways Express flights operated by wholly owned subsidiaries PSA Airlines and Piedmont Airlines.

Management at US Airways has launched an evaluation of elimination its fleet of 25 Embraer E-190s through direct sales or subleases.
Today during an earnings call with analysts and investors carrier President Scott Kirby said the fleet represents roughly 2.5% of total consolidated capacity at US Airways, and cutting the fleet would give the carrier additional flexibility to reduce its available seat miles.
Kirby also explains the E-Jet represent a small sub-fleet whose elimination could also create operational gains for the carrier. The aircraft are also in demand globally, so US Airways believes getting rid of the E-Jets is something the carrier "can effectively implement from a financial perspective", says Kirby.
US Airways owns the 25 aircraft, and company chief executive Doug Parker stresses the potential cutting of E-Jets
from its fleet is not to raise liquidity, but to enhance long-term profitability.
In August 2005 US Airways issued a request for proposal to regional partners Air Wisconsin, Mesa Air Group and Republic Airways Holdings to operate up to 25 E-190s once it merged with America West.
But after mainline pilot protests a transition deal was ratified by America West and US Airways pilots to limit E-190 flying to mainline operations.

US Airways Group, Inc. (NYSE: LCC) today announced July and year-to-date 2009 traffic results. Mainline revenue passenger miles (RPMs) for the month were 5.7 billion, down 4.3 percent versus July 2008.
Capacity was 6.5 billion available seat miles (ASMs), down 5.7 percent versus July 2008. Passenger load factor for the month of July was a record 86.4 percent, up 1.3 points versus July 2008.
US Airways President Scott Kirby said, "Our July consolidated (mainline and Express) passenger revenue per available seat mile (PRASM) decreased approximately 15 percent versus the same period last year while total revenue per available seat mile decreased approximately 12 percent on a year-over-year basis. We finished July with strong close-in bookings and remain cautiously optimistic about the demand environment as we enter the fall season."
For the month of July, US Airways’ preliminary on-time performance as reported to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) was 80.6 percent with a completion factor of 98.9 percent.

Re: US Airways : US : AWE
-------------Airtransportnews :
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a $5.4 million civil penalty against US Airways, Inc. for allegedly operating eight aircraft on a total of 1,647 flights from October 2008 to January 2009 while not in compliance with certain Airworthiness Directives (ADs) or the airline’s maintenance program.
ADs are rules issued by the FAA when an unsafe condition exists on a type of aircraft, and additional maintenance is required to remedy the problem.
Each year the FAA issues about 250 ADs requiring air carriers to correct potentially unsafe conditions. Compliance deadlines range from immediate action before further flight, to days, months, or years depending on the severity and
complexity of the safety issue. Air carriers must fully comply with all of these legally enforceable directives.
The FAA found the following AD non-compliance issues:
• US Airways, Inc. operated one Embraer 190 aircraft on 19 flights from October 22, 2008 to October 26, 2008 while the aircraft was not in compliance with an AD that required inspections to prevent a cargo door from opening during
flight.
• The airline failed to perform inspections required by an AD for cracking of a landing gear part on one Airbus A320. The airline operated the aircraft on 26 flights from November 2, 2008 to January 20, 2009 while not in compliance with
the AD. The airline also operated another A320 for 17 flights from December 3, 2008 to January 21, 2009 while not in compliance with the same AD.
The FAA found the following problems with maintenance practices:
• US Airways, Inc. failed to meet the requirements of its Maintenance Policies and Procedures Manual, which required inspections related to engine work on a Boeing 757 aircraft. The airplane was flown on 505 flights from May 2, 2008 to
December 3, 2008.
• From October 20, 2008 to November 14, 2008, US Airways, Inc. operated one Boeing 767 aircraft on 51 flights after failing to perform the inspections, tests, and samplings required by its maintenance program on that aircraft.
• From October 1, 2008 to November 24, 2008, US Airways, Inc. operated one Boeing 757 aircraft on 121 flights without proper maintenance.
• The airline failed to follow its maintenance program and perform a weekly maintenance check for one Boeing 767 aircraft, which was then operated from November 2, 2008 to November 6, 2008 on 53 flights.
• From May 22, 2008 to January 13, 2009, US Airways, Inc. operated one Airbus A320 aircraft on 855 flights while the aircraft did not meet the airline’s maintenance program requirements for an engine repair.
US Airways, Inc. could have deferred maintenance of this item for ten days under its maintenance program but failed to do so. Fifty-one of the flights occurred after the FAA, on December 31, 2008, brought the problem to the airline’s attention.
US Airways, Inc. has 30 days from the receipt of the civil penalty letter to respond to the FAA.

Highlights of US Airways Group, Inc.’s (the Company) third quarter 2009 results:
The Company reported a net loss of $80 million, or ($0.60) per share.
This compares to a net loss of $866 million, or ($8.46) per share for the same period last year.
Excluding special items, the Company reported a net loss of $110 million, or ($0.83) per share versus a net loss excluding special items of $243 million, or ($2.36) per share for the same period last year.

Excluding special items and net realized losses/gains on fuel hedging transactions, the Company reported operating income of $23 million and a net loss of $60 million
for its 2009 third quarter.
This compares to a third quarter 2008 operating loss of $261 million and net loss of $311 million as measured on the same basis.
The Company’s a la carte revenue initiatives continue to produce impressive results and generated approximately $110 million in revenue during the third quarter. With the previously announced changes to this program, the Company now estimates that these programs will generate more than $500 million in ancillary revenue on an annualized basis.
The Company continues to run an efficient and on-time airline.
On a year-to-date basis US Airways ranks first among the major network carriers in on-time performance as measured by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Air Travel Consumer Report.
