La saga Olympic continue dans les mauvaises nouvelles.

La Cour Européenne de Justice infligerait une nouvelle amende à l'état grecque pour ses aides jugées illégales.

Greece's Government is to be penalised further by the European Court of Justice over the long-running Olympic Airways state-aid saga, and faces a daily fine on top of a lump sum payment.

The court has imposed a €2 million ($2.8 million) basic penalty and, in addition, a daily fine of €16,000 per day after the Greek Government failed to demonstrate compliance with a ruling in 2005 to recover state aid illegally awarded to Olympic.

In its ruling the court says the long-running dispute centres on a €41 million capital contribution for restructuring, €61 million of passenger taxes, and €2.5 million in airport rents.

But the Greek Government has claimed that certain Olympic debts have been repaid to the state, after being offset against a compensation award to the company.

The court says the Government has proven repayment of the €41 million in capital, plus €38 million of the taxes, and nearly €655,000 of the rental aid.

"On the other hand [the court] considers that Greece has not provided evidence that set-off has been carried out in relation to the rest of the [tax and rental] aid," it adds.

While the court says the outstanding amounts constitute only a small part of the original sum, it says the Greek Government's "failure" to meet demands has lasted for more than four years.

As a result it will impose the combined two-part penalty in a month's time, unless the Government can demonstrate that it has fulfilled its obligations.

( des autorités grecques ? ) depuis un bon moment.
( première idée en 2006, mise en place, fourchette pessimsite printemps 2009 )

En même temps que l'offre publique d'achat/privatisation d'Olympic qui a échoué.
Et toutes les demandes long haul d'Aegean rejetées auraient du rendre un peu de couleur à Olympic : raté, raté sur toute la ligne !

Aux dernières nouvelles, Pantheon devait être limité aux lignes intérieures grecques, l'international restant à Olympic Airlines avec ses quelques Airbus A 340.

En plus Pantheon devait assurer quelques Obligations de dessertes, non rentables, de désenclavement de certaines villes moyennes
( équivalent des OSP opérées en France par exemple Airlinair )

A remettre dans un contexte "national" un peu spécial, avec un dossier auprès de l'UE...

Olympic Airlines devient finalement Olympic Air, ça ne change pas grand chose aux problèmes struturels du national flagship. C'est donc Marfin group qui en aura la responsabilité

A la suite de son rachat par le groupe Marfin, Olympic Airlines s’apprête à changer. La compagnie grecque va renaître sous le nom d’Olympic Air le 1er octobre. Comme le nouveau nom et le nouveau logo ne l’indiquent pas, le profil de la flotte et du réseau devrait être considérablement modifié.

Conformément à l’accord conclu avec le gouvernement grec lors du rachat, Olympic Air devrait ne reprendre que 65% des opérations d’Olympic Airlines et abandonner son monopole sur la desserte des îles grecques.
Le programme de fidélisation Icarus va quant à lui être arrêté le 30 septembre.

La flotte va également être remaniée. Olympic Air a déjà commencé à toucher à sa flotte de turbopropulseurs en commandant huit Q400 de Bombardier, dont la livraison a commencé en juillet. Elle a aussi décidé de convertir sa flotte moyen-courrier, principalement composée de Boeing, à Airbus. Elle devrait exploiter quatorze A319 et A320 lors du lancement en octobre.

En revanche, le logo conserve l’identité d’Olympic Airlines : il fait toujours référence aux anneaux olympiques, ceux-ci étant agencés verticalement.

Le groupe Marfin, nouvel actionaire d'Olympic, va fermer des lignes

Greek flag carrier Olympic Airlines will suspend air service to Russia in October, according to the Russian Transport Daily Report.

Marfin Investement Group (MIG), based in Nea Erythrea outside Athens, acquired Olympic Airlines from the Greek government in March for EUR177.2 million (US$253.4 million) and will close its offices and end service to Moscow and
charters to St Petersburg in October.

The company attributed reductions to requirements of the European Commission, which approved the purchase of Olympic Airlines if the new owners preserved 65 per cent of the old routes. The airline has already scrapped service to New York, Montreal, Barcelona and Johannesburg.

Le groupe Marfin a décidé de s’y prendre deux jours à l’avance. Il a relancé Olympic Airlines sous le nom et les couleurs d’Olympic Air le 29 septembre, au lieu du 1er octobre, comme initialement prévu.

La flotte de la compagnie grecque a été considérablement modifiée. Elle se compose aujourd’hui de cinq Airbus A320, huit A319, sept Q400, trois Q100 de Bombardier et un ATR42.
Sa taille « définitive » devrait être atteinte au printemps 2010, avec la fin des livraisons d’Airbus.
Elle comptera alors trente-deux appareils : neuf A320, sept A319, dix Q400, cinq Q100 et un ATR.

Par conséquent, Olympic Air possède un réseau considérablement plus limité qu’Olympic Airlines.

Elle a notamment abandonné plusieurs destinations internationales, notamment toutes celles situées en Allemagne et les destinations long-courriers.
Toutefois, elle a conclu un accord de partage de code avec Delta Air Lines qui lui permettra de proposer des vols entre Athènes et New York dès le mois d’octobre.

Plusieurs autres accords de ce type sont en cours de négociation, notamment avec Air France pour la desserte de la France et de Montréal à partir de mars 2010. Olympic Air est également en discussion avec Etihad Airlines pour ajouter Abou Dhabi, l’Afrique du Sud et l’Australie à son réseau, avec CSA pour Prague, avec Baboo pour Genève ou avec Aerosvit pour Kiev et Odessa.

Il n'y a donc plus aucune Cie régulière grecque exploitant des gros porteurs. La solution de codeshare avec DL est, dans le futur proche, sans doute la meilleure.

Les actionnaires majoritaires d'Olympic et d'Aegean sont d'accord pour une fusion .

The main shareholders of AEGEAN AIRLINES and OLYMPIC AIR have reached today an agreement regarding the
merger of their respective activities, resulting in the formation of a new company that will be listed on the Athens Exchange.

OLYMPIC HANDLING and OLYMPIC ENGINEERING will become 100% subsidiaries of the new company.


The company that will be formed as a result from the merger will carry the name and logos of OLYMPIC AIR, following the necessary transition and adjustment period, during which the name and logos of AEGEAN will be used in parallel as well.


The agreement is subject to the approval of the European Competition Commission, which is the relevant competent authority given the size and particular terms of the transaction. Until then, the exact process mechanics and associated timetable will be articulated. According to the terms of the agreement, the main shareholder of
AEGEAN (Vassilakis Group) and the sole shareholder of OLYMPIC AIR (Marfin Investment Group) will have an equal shareholding in the combined entity, while the groups of Messrs Laskaridis, V. Constantakopoulos, G. David
and L. Ioannou as well as Piraeus Bank will all maintain their proportional equity participations in the new company, thereby continuing to support this particularly important venture for the country.


Messrs Th. Vassilakis and A. Vgenopoulos are expected to lead the new company, ensuring the smooth integration of the businesses and the creation of a national airline champion with enlarged presence in the European market as well as seamless coverage of even the most remote islands of our country.
