Air New Zealand hopes that new 3.4m high wing tips on its fleet of Boeing 767 aircraft will reduce its fuel consumption by more than six million litres a year.
The airline's first Boeing 767-300ER aircraft fitted with blended winglets landed at Auckland International Airport today.
The blended winglets make the aircraft's wing more efficient by reducing drag, cutting fuel use and emissions. Boeing has said it expects most aircraft in the future to be fitted with them.
Air New Zealand general manager airline operations Captain David Morgan said the blended winglets also enabled aircraft to climb faster and improved payload performance.
The airline is also installing dryers to reduce moisture trapped in the insulation between the aircraft's outer-skin and the cabin lining in its 767 fleet.
They will remove around 200kg of water from each aircraft, reducing weight, fuel consumption and carbon
emissions.
The dryers are expected to save an additional 320,000 litres of fuel and 800 tonnes of carbon emissions annually across the fleet of five 767 aircraft, said Captain Morgan.

Le sud américain Lan équipe ses B 767 de winglets
Quelques détails sur ATWonlineLAN Airlines will complete installation of Aviation Partner Boeing blended winglets on its 767-300ER fleet by August 2010.
"We invested $70 million on winglets for 28 passenger and nine freighter aircraft. The winglets save about 5% in fuel burn on our aircraft and deliver 320 miles extra range," VP-Business Planning and Control, Passenger Division Ernesto
Solis Grau told ATWOnline in Santiago.
Installation will be handled during C checks, taking around 25 days each. LAN Maintenance also completed
cabin renovation of its A320 family fleet this year and a $120 million installation of its new business class product on its 767-300ERs and A340-300s.
That work appears sufficient for now, as LAN officials told this website that the maintenance division has no plans to offer third-party work in the future.

Hawaiian annonce son premier 737-300 avec blended winglets.
HONOLULU -- Hawaiian Airlines has announced the installation of blended winglets on the first of its Boeing 767-300 jets.
The airline said Wednesday that its newest and biggest "green" initiative will significantly reduce fuel usage and carbon dioxide emissions of its aircraft.
Standing 11-feet tall and extending upward from the end of each wing, the winglets improve efficiency by smoothing out airflow across the upper wing near the tip.
Hawaiian said the winglets reduce aerodynamic drag, which means less thrust is needed to fly the same speed.
>>>> The airline said the winglets will save between 700 and 800 gallons of fuel for every round trip between the West Coast and Hawaii, or an estimated 2 million gallons of fuel per year.

Bonjour legau,

BA doit prolonger SES 767. Qui sont équipés de RR RB 211-524G/H/T
Hypothèse plausible
