Air Berlin announced a €7.1 million ($10.2 million) second-quarter profit, down 9% from the €7.8 million achieved in the
year-ago period, in a preliminary earnings statement released yesterday.
Second-quarter revenue fell 3.8% to €836.2 million as the airline reduced capacity and operating profit rose 33.3% to €17.6 million from €13.2 million. The company expects to announce detailed results today.
Last week AB placed a convertible bond worth €125 million with institutional investors. Bonsoir

Germany's second largest airline will operate direct flights to Tangiers, Nador and Tunis, while a separate service will travel between Munich and Cairo.
The carrier is introducing a total of ten new destinations, including flights to Malaga, Thessaloniki and Hanover from Stuttgart.
Stuttgart will also service seven flights to Italy, including the cities of Venice, Naples and Palermo.
These routes come into effect on November 1st and are in line with Air Berlin's winter schedule, which runs until April 30th.
As part of the programme, the airline will also be offering increased services from Salzburg, Innsbruck and Graz.
Air Berlin has also announced that it will begin operating an Airbus A319, which can accommodate 144 passengers, on its flights to Jersey next summer.
The aircraft will replace the existing Bombardier Q400, which has a capacity of 76 people.
It was revealed yesterday (September 28th) that Air Berlin had entered into an agreement with Turkish carrier Pegasus Airlines, with the two carriers' websites now linked.

TUI Travel group ( TUIfly ) prend 9,9% d'Air Berlin
International travel agency TUI is to purchase a 9.9-percent share in the budget airline Air Berlin, according to a
market report released Wednesday. The transaction is set to take place officially later this month.
TUI is to purchase the nearly 8.5 million new shares through its subsidiary company Leibniz-Service, with each share valued at 3.94 euros ($5.79).
The deal will net Air Berlin a capital gain of 33.5 million euros. The airline has said it plans to use the funds for "general business purposes."
Competing for market share
Senior Transportation Analyst Per-Ola Hellgren of the Landesbank Baden-Wuerttemberg (LBBW) explained that the deal represents a way for both companies to expand their share in the crowded regional airline market.
"For TUI, the benefit is increased scale resulting from the cooperation with Air Berlin," Hellgren told Deutsche Welle.
A growing partnership
TUI's acquisition represents another step in its strategic partnership with Air Berlin. In March, the two companies agreed Air Berlin would take over certain flights in TUIfly's 2009/2010 winter schedule.
"Through this agreement, Air Berlin will gain access to three economically important markets: Cologne, Stuttgart and Italy," said Air Berlin's CEO Joachim Hunold in a press release.
The budget airline will initially charter 13 of the 38 airplanes TUIfly plans to operate this winter. Starting in summer 2010, Air Berlin will take over an additional plane from TUIfly.

Air Berlin strengthens its presence in Thailand. In addition to the direct flights already available to Bangkok and Phuket, Air Berlin passengers can now book connecting flights from the Thai capital to Koh Samui, Chiang Mai and Phuket.
This has been made possible by the cooperation agreement with Bangkok Airways. In winter 2009/10 Air Berlin
will be operating four non-stop services a week from Düsseldorf, three non-stop services a week from Berlin-Tegel and two non-stop services a week from Munich to Bangkok.
Feeder flights will be available from Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hanover, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Cologne, Münster-Osnabrück, Nuremberg, Vienna and Zurich.
Germany’s second largest airline is offering passengers the flights operated by Bangkok Airways under its own flight number.
Customers benefit from a wider choice of flights and convenient connections.
