JAL/ (UPDATE 1)
* Delta in talks to become top JAL shareholder-NHK
* Would spend several tens of billions of yen on stake-NHK (Adds background)
TOKYO, Sept 11 (Reuters) -
Delta Air Lines, the world's biggest carrier, is in talks to invest in Japan Airlines Corp (JAL) and become its top shareholder, public broadcaster NHK said on Friday.
A JAL spokesman declined to comment on the report, which said Delta was in talks to invest several tens of billions of yen (several hundred million dollars) in Asia's largest airline by revenue.
JAL is forecasting a net loss of 63 billion yen ($692 million) for the year to March, hit by the global economic slump.
It has been rushing to sell assets and slash costs after earlier this year securing a 100 billion yen credit line backed by the government. The deal requires it to take drastic restructuring measures under state supervision.

Re: Discussions Delta / Japan Airlines
Une opportunité d'ouverture pour Delta ?
Voici ce qu'écrit Airwise, avec quelques détails de plus :
A Delta-JAL deal could bring needed cash to the Japanese carrier. JAL posted a JPY99 billion yen (USD$1.1 billion) net loss for the April-June quarter and is headed for its second-straight annual loss this business year to March, hit by a downturn in travel and as it struggles to rein in costs.
JAL secured a JPY100 billion yen government-backed loan in June and is widely expected to ask for more financial assistance to help it restructure. JAL is due to submit a restructuring plan by the end of the month.
The restructuring of JAL will likely test Japan's Democratic Party, which swept to power in a landslide election victory last month vowing to place greater scrutiny on the use of state funds.
