Transaero Airlines successfully concluded its annual shareholder meeting, approving annual report with operational and financial results for 2008 in it.

Transaero passenger turnover in 2008 grew to more than 17.5 billion RPK, 49% more than in 2007. The airline carried more than 4.85 million passengers which is a 50% increase over 2007.

Transaero Airlines further strengthened its position as the second largest airline in terms of passenger turnover and the third largest in terms of passenger number in Russia. Transaero has also become Russia’s second international and leading tourist airline, and its share in the Russian aviation market in terms of passenger turnover grew from 10.7% in 2007 to 14.3% in 2008.

Revenues increased by 82.4% to 37.4 billion rubles. Sales profit constituted 1.83 billion rubles, 5.7 times more than in 2007. Transaero’s pre-tax earnings reached 225.58 million rubles, which is 70% more than in 2007. Net profit constituted 109.4 million rubles, a 7% increase over 2007.

Those results were achieved despite the sharp increase in fuel prices in the first half of 2008 and the financial crisis that characterized the second half of the year.

Transaero Airlines continues stable development of its business in 2009. The airline is following through with its ambitions domestic route network expansion plans. All Transaero’s main operational indicators on destinations within Russia have increased by 34% in the first five months of 2009 in comparison with the same period in 2008. Transaero has also become the largest carrier on routes from Moscow to the Russian Far East with passenger turnover to these destinations growing by 83% in January – May 2009 period. The airline continues with its fleet renewal program, adding next generation aircraft (Boeing 777s, Boeing 747-400s and Boeing 737-800s) to its fleet.

Under a deal signed in 2004, Transaero committed to acquiring 10 Tu-214s. "We are keen to take the rest of the batch," says Transaero director Olga Pleshakova.
But she says the airline is prepared to consider the upgraded Tu-204SM if and when it becomes available, although this would involve converting the entire [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] order "to replace all 10 models for the sake of fleet unification".

Transaero Airlines, Russia’s second largest passenger airline, responding to significant increase in its key
year–on–year operational indicators in the beginning of 2010, decided to expand both its domestic and international route network.

In the coming months Transaero plans to launch seven new flights to key destinations, including Beijing in China, Qostanay in Kazakhstan and Yakutsk in the Russian Far East.

The company will also launch new routes from St Petersburg to Vladivostok, Khabarovsk, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy.

Transaero Airlines' board approved the acquisition of five 777-200s and nine 747-400s as part of its ongoing fleet development and modernization program.

Deliveries will start in May and continue throughout the year. The widebodies will be purchased through financial leases, an airline spokesperson confirmed to this website, adding that it concluded an agreement with Japanese trading company JALUX for the 747-400s in a deal worth $252 million. The -400s previously were operated by Japan Airlines and will replace Transaero's -200s and -300s. They will be operated mainly on international routes.

Financial details of the 777 agreement could not yet be released in accordance with Russian regulations but are expected to be disclosed next month, the spokesperson said. All of the 777s previously were operated by Singapore Airlines and will be used by Transaero for operations on both international and domestic routes, primarily to destinations in the Far East.

Separately, Russia's largest privately held airline this month applied to the US Dept. of Transportation for permission to begin scheduled services from Moscow Domodedovo to New York JFK and Miami, airlineinfo.com reported. According to the filing, Transaero plans to commence once-weekly service to MIA in October and a twice-weekly service to JFK in December. Additionally, it applied for authorization to operate charter flights between Russia and the US.

Transaero Airlines has received its fourth Boeing 777 aircraft, the 50th aircraft in the carrier’s fleet.

The jetliner has come equipped with 323 seats in three-class configurations - business, premium economy
and tourist.

The new aircraft will be incorporated into operations on Transaero’s domestic and international routes.

Transaero's most recent aircraft asset is the first of four Boeing 777s that Transaero expects to receive from Singapore Airlines as part of a financial lease agreement signed in April of this year.

The acquisition is part of Transaero’s ongoing fleet development and modernization program that will see four more Boeing 777s added to the fleet in the coming months.

The carrier plans to acquire an additional 10 747-400 aircraft while phasing out its classic Boeing 747-200s.

The newly acquired Boeing jetliner will enter operations this Friday on Transaero's Moscow – Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk route.

The results of Transaero Airlines operational performance for January-May provides evidence to support the airline's ongoing sustainable development as well as revealing a significant increase in performance over the same period last year.

Results for January – May 2010:

Transaero’s passenger turnover totaled 9,107 million RPK, 58.7% more than in the first five months of 2009

The number of passengers carried for the period totaled 2,083,295 individuals, a 52.6% increase over the first five months of 2009

The total amount of cargo carried increased to 12,421.73 tons, 40.5% more than during the first five months of 2009

Freight ton kilometers amounted to 890 million tkm, a 57.2% increase over the first five months of 2009.

Both domestic and international operations experienced growth in January-May 2010.

Domestic passenger turnover grew 35% and international passenger turnover grew 57%. Transaero Airlines carried 89% of all passengers on its regularly scheduled flights.

Transaero Airlines is planning to purchase four more Boeing 777s from Singapore Airlines in 2011 and is increasing its commitment from nine to 12 747-400s, a spokesperson confirmed to ATW.

The SIA 777-300ERs, which will become the first of the type to join UN's fleet, will accommodate up to 373 passengers in a four-class configuration.

They will be used on domestic and international routes.

In April, the Russian airline signed contracts for the acquisition of five 777-200ERs previously operated by SIA and nine ex-Japan Airlines 747-400s as part of its ongoing fleet development and modernization

All five 777-200s have been delivered and the first ex-JAL 747-400 arrived this week.

It is configured in two classes, with 12 seats in business and 509 in economy.

The aircraft will be operated on high-capacity routes to leisure destinations.

UN will add 11 747-400s configured with 521 seats in 2011 and 2012.

They will be integrated into its fleet on financial leasing contracts.

“As we are phasing out our [four] -200s and we notice increasing demand on leisure destinations, we see the need for more 747-400s [compared to April] in this configuration,” the spokesperson said. Its other 747-400s offer a three-class configuration—first, business and economy—with a much lower seat density of 352 seats.

Transaero’s fleet now comprises 59 aircraft, including 14 747s, eight 777s, 12 767s, 22 737s and three Tupolev 214s.

It is the only carrier in Russia and the CIS that operates 777 and 747 passenger aircraft.

The carrier is rapidly growing.

Traffic for the first three quarters of 2010 increased 40.2% year-over-year to 21.54 billion RPKs while the number of passengers carried rose 32.2% to 5.6 million.

It currently serves more than 100 routes in Russia, Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America and added 18 new routes so far this winter schedule.

It will launch a weekly Moscow Domodedovo-Rio de Janeiro flights in January.

La deuxième compagnie aérienne russe Transaero a annoncé mardi son intention d'acheter 12 A320neo, le moyen-courrier de l'avionneur européen Airbus, qui entend faire de la Russie une de ses priorités.

Transaero et Airbus ont signé un protocole d'accord "sur l'achat de huit avions A320neo. L'accord prévoit également une option pour l'achat de quatre autres avions de ce type", a déclaré à l'AFP le porte-parole du groupe russe, Sergueï Bykhal.

Le document a été signé lundi mais l'annonce n'a été faite que mardi, au premier jour du salon aéronautique international Maks, qui doit se tenir jusqu'à dimanche à Joukovski, en banlieue de Moscou.

"Le montant du contrat est un secret commercial. Le prix catalogue de huit avions est de 712 millions de dollars", a précisé M. Bykhal, ajoutant que les livraisons commenceraient à partir de 2017 et s'étendraient sur deux ans.

Transaero devient ainsi "le premier acheteur d'Airbus A320neo en Russie, CEI (11 ex-républiques soviétiques) et en Europe de l'Est", souligne par ailleurs le groupe russe dans un communiqué.

Les A320neo, qui seront exploités sur des vols moyen-courriers, sont une version nouvellement motorisée de l'A320 classique qui permet, selon Airbus, de consommer 15% de moins de carburant, un enjeu crucial pour les compagnies aériennes.

Le programme est un succès commercial pour l'avionneur européen qui a déjà obtenu, depuis son lancement en décembre 2010, 1.200 commandes et engagements pour des A320neo.

L'accord annoncé mardi représente un changement de cap chez Transaero, qui s'était jusqu'ici équipé quasi exclusivement chez l'avionneur américain Boeing, féroce concurrent d'Airbus en Russie.

"C'est un tout nouvel accord pour nous", a souligné Christopher Buckley, vice-président d'Airbus pour l'Europe, l'Asie et le Pacifique, précisant toutefois que la compagnie russe avait "il y a très très longtemps" possédé des A310.

Transaero, qui a effectué son premier vol en 1991, possède un parc de 67 avions et dessert plus de 130 destinations en Russie, en Europe, Asie, Amérique et Afrique.

"Transaero est un opérateur traditionnel de Boeing et c'est extrêmement important pour nous de créer une brèche", a déclaré M. Buckley, interrogé par l'AFP.

"Nous ne pouvons pas gagner tous les contrats", a réagi pour sa part lors d'une conférence de presse Sergueï Kravtchenko, président en Russie de Boeing.

Outre cette commande de huit avions avec une option pour quatre appareils supplémentaires, Airbus pourra fournir "jusqu'à 20 A320neo" supplémentaires à Transaero, a par ailleurs indiqué M. Buckley.

Une perspective alléchante, alors que le géant européen voit en la Russie "un de ses cinq marchés stratégiques prioritaires", selon M. Buckley, qui a par ailleurs signé mardi avec la compagnie russe VSMPO-Avisma un accord pour la fourniture jusqu'en 2020 de titane destiné à la fabrication des trains d'atterrissage de l'A350-1000.

Pour l'heure, Airbus a fourni environ 200 avions en Russie, selon M. Buckley.

Boeing en a lui vendu 265 à 23 compagnies, a indiqué de son côté M. Kravtchenko, estimant qu'au total, les compagnies aériennes de la Communauté des Etats Indépendants (ex-pays de l'URSS, sauf les pays Baltes et la Géorgie") allaient avoir besoin dans les prochaines années de 1080 nouveaux avions, ce qui représente un montant de 11O milliards de dollars.

"C'est un très gros marché. Il y aura de la place pour tous les fabricants", a-t-il relevé.

Nevertheless, we’ll also consider the Boeing 747-8 as our choice. The final decision will be made closer to the date and it will be based upon deep research of commercial offers, the Russian aviation market situation and airport infrastructure development.”

The A380s/747-8s would be used to replace older 747s and expand the carrier's fleet from 2015 onward, Pleshakova said.

Privately held UN is the largest operator of widebodies in Russia, CIS and Eastern Europe with 17 747s, 777s and 13 767s. A further six 747s are scheduled to be added over the next several months.

The carrier operates some former Japan Airlines 747-400s with 522 seats. Pleshakova said, “Starting from 2015 we’ll phase out all our classic Boeing 747-300s. After 2020 most of our oldest Boeing 747-400s will be also taken out of operation. To both replace them and further develop our fleet, we plan to acquire additional extra-large aircraft within the period of 2015-2025.”

Pleshakova also said that UN backs the idea, announced by United Aircraft Corp. President Mikhail Pogosyan, to launch a new Russian-built, long-haul widebody aircraft. If “it become a success, Transaero will think of acquiring those jetliners as well,” she said.

Earlier this week, Airbus Executive VP-Europe, Asia and the Pacific Christopher Buckley told reporters at MAKS that Aeroflot is interested in the A380, Reuters reported. “We are studying the possibility of Aeroflot's use of the A380,” said Buckley. “This does not mean that we will sell any A380s tomorrow.”

«At present we have 71 aircraft in our fleet and most of them are wide-body jets. Of course we are considering Airbus А380 and Boeing 747–800 aircraft in the network of our development, since at present they are the most advanced and the largest ones», - said Pleshakova.

«We are already negotiating actively and I think that both of these jets will join our fleet in the next several years», - she underlined. Today the airline operates Boeing 737s, 747s, 767s, 777s and Тu-214s.

We remind you that installation and testing of new double-deck passenger boarding bridge for A380 is being carried out in Moscow Domodedovo airport, from where most of the airline’s flights are departed. The work should be completed in spring 2012. In addition, the airport already has permission for servicing A380s.

According to some sources, Emirates will be the first airline to perform flights from Domodedovo using A380 aircraft.

MOSCOU — La deuxième compagnie aérienne de Russie Transaero va acheter quatre A380, l'avion géant de l'avionneur européen Airbus, a annoncé vendredi à l'AFP Konstantin Tiourkine, porte-parole du groupe russe.

"Un protocole d'accord a été signé aujourd'hui (vendredi) (...) pour la fourniture à Transaero de quatre avions A380", a déclaré M. Tioukine, qui a précisé que la livraison ne se ferait "pas avant fin 2015".

Il n'a pas voulu dévoiler le montant du contrat mais a indiqué que le prix catalogue pour l'acquisition de ces quatre avions d'une capacité allant "jusqu'à 700 places", était de "1,5 milliard de dollars".

A la mi-août, Transaero et Airbus avaient déjà signé un protocole d'accord sur l'achat de huit avions A320neo, le moyen-courrier d'Airbus, avec une option pour l'achat de quatre autres appareils de ce type.

Transaero Airlines (UN), Russia’s second-largest carrier, is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Airbus Friday for A380s, ATW learned from a well-placed source. If the MOU is signed, it would make UN the first carrier in Russia and the CIS to order the A380. Deliveries are expected to start no earlier than 2015.

UN could not be reached for comment, but in August CEO Olga Pleshakova revealed the company was analyzing possible orders for the A380 and/or the Boeing 747-8 ([Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]).

The A380s / 747-8s would be used to replace older 747s and expand the carrier's fleet from 2015 onward, Pleshakova said. She noted the final decision will “be based upon deep research of commercial offers, the Russian aviation market situation and airport infrastructure development.”

According to Russian media, Moscow Domodedovo (DME) airport is analyzing the installation of double-deck passenger boarding bridges for A380 use. UN would deploy the A380 from DME, but reportedly Emirates has also indicated interest in operating the A380 to DME.

In August, UN signed an MOU with Airbus to buy eight A320neos plus options on an additional four, making it the first A320neo customer in Russia, the CIS and Eastern Europe ([Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]).

Privately held UN is historically a loyal Boeing customer and operates 70 aircraft, comprising 19 747s, eight 777s, 13 767s, 27 737s and three Tupolev Tu-214s. It operated an Airbus A310 from 2000-2002. It is the largest operator of widebodies in Russia, CIS and Eastern Europe.
