Significant lessor order for Airbus’ newest, most fuel efficient aircraft

Air Lease Corporation (ALC), the Los Angeles based aircraft leasing company has signed a contract for 25 A350 XWB Family aircraft, consisting of 20 A350-900 and five A350-1000, the largest member of the A350 XWB Family. ALC also has options for five additional A350-1000s. With this new order, ALC becomes the 35th A350 XWB customer and the order takes the A350 XWB backlog past 600 (to 617).

Concurrently, ALC has signed a purchase order for 14 A321neo aircraft following an earlier agreement announced at the 2012 Farnborough International Air Show for 36 A320neo Family aircraft plus 14 options. With this latest confirmation from ALC, the lessor’s cumulative orders for the A320neo Family have reached 50, of which up to 34 will be A321neo models. ALC will announce engine selections at a later date.

On voit qu'Airbus continue à parler, implicitement ou explicitement, de l'A350-XWB-800.

Rebonjour.

Dans le carnet de commandes de l'Airbus A350-XWB, les commandes fermes de la variante -1000 doivent se trouver au niveau de 110, environ. Pas mal du tout.

Où en est la crédibilité de Tim CLARK, maintenant, que Steve UDVAR HAZY a choisi cet avion pour ALC, en sus de Cathay PACIFIC, QATAR, ETIHAD, ASIANA..., sans oublier EMIRATES, bien sûr ?

De toutes façons, à l'époque correspondante dans la période de naissance du B777-300ER, l'A350-XWB-1000 a accumulé bien plus de commandes fermes que ne l'avait le B777-300ER !

Boeing n'avait, pour ainsi dire, que la commande de GECAS (il avait 'vendu' au motoriste et à celui qui avait financé le développement de l'avion) ! Il n'avait même pas la commande d'Emirates, à l'époque correspondante / équivalente. Et, sur la commande qui avait fini par être passée par Emirates, une tranche de 28 appareils contenait seulement 2 "commandes frâiches", .... 26 ayant été affectés depuis GECAS à Emirates !

Je répèrte que je n'ai jamais compris cette fiction, selon laquelle l'A350-XWB-1000 se vendait (c'est-à-dire, "était commandé" ) lentement.

Mais les A321 sont une confirmation de commande, alors que les A350-XWB-900 et -1000 sont contenus dans une commande 'frâiche', et on regarde, notamment, les -1000.

C'est la commande des A350-XWB-900, et des -1000, surtout, qui (selon certaines sources / "industry sources") auraient permis à ALC d'obtenir un prix encore plus "discounted" pour les A321.

... on voit que cela positionne les avis professsionnels exactement là où ils ont leur vraie signification, au coeur des réfléxions stratégiques & managériales des opérateurs et des objectifs des marchés ciblés par Airbus, et non pas des écrits subjectifs des 'amateurs enthousiastes' des réseaux sociaux, qui restent dans le "championing" des leurs préférences personnelles.

Et cela positionne bien le fait que, malgré les améliorations de l'A321-NEO, par rapport à l'A321 dans sa version actuelle, notamment en terme de capacité PAX / "PUC capability", l'A321-NEO aura seulement des possibilités ETOPS classiques, et ne pourra pas constituer un remplaçant adéquat du B757 pour les opérations 'trans-océaniques / trans-atlantiques' (point confirmé par les deux motoristes RR & P&W, contactés,.... GE ne se sentant pas concerné par cet aspect, dans l'absolu, parce que, même s'il peut-être sur l'A321-NEO, avec CFMI et son Leap, le B757 n'a jamais constitué une application pour lui).

D'ailleurs, ceci expliquerait l'intérêt apparent pour cet appareil dans sa version "current engine options", équipée de "sharklets", même pour les opérations 'trans-continentales' aux USA.

Enfin, SUH apporte une grande force d'objectivité & de crédibilité, que ne possèdent, collectivement ou individuellement, ni Boeing ni Tim CLARK (Emirates), par exemple, quand ils dénigrent, comme ils l'ont fait, et le font encore (certes moins), l'A350-XWB-1000, notamment dans sa version "upgraded".

Aucun professionnel, de bonne foi, ne peut nier que SUH & ALC apportent un poids supplémentaire significatif, 'de référence', au choix des autres clients, déjà impressionnants (Qatar, Cathay Pacifc, Etihad, Asiana, et, bien sûr, Emirates lui-même), en faveur de cette version -1000 de la famille A350-XWB.

Icelandair prend 16 Boeing 737 MAX 8 &9 plus 8 options

Icelandair has placed a firm order for 16 Boeing 737 MAXs valued at more than $1.6 billion at list prices.

The order, originally announced as a commitment for 12 MAXs in December 2012, has been increased to 16 aircraft and includes 737 MAX 8s and 9s, as well as purchase rights for eight additional 737 MAXs. Boeing said the Icelandair order brings total 737 MAXs ordered to date to 1,180.

“The 737 MAX will complement our Boeing 757 operations seamlessly and allow us to continue our route expansion in the most fuel-efficient manner,” Icelandair Group president and CEO Bjorgolfur Johannsson said.

“The 737 MAX will be an excellent addition to Icelandair’s all-Boeing fleet, enabling the carrier to expand its operations across Europe and North America,” Boeing Commercial Airplanes VP-European sales Todd Nelp said.

Icelandair currently operates a fleet of 23 757s.

Arabian low-cost carrier (LCC) Flydubai is in talks with Airbus and Boeing over a major order for single-aisle aircraft.

The carrier is believed to be looking for up to 50 aircraft, either A320 or 737 family aircraft.

The news came from Flydubai’s chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum as he was delivering the carrier’s 2012 results in Dubai Wednesday.

Revenue for Flydubai was AED 2,778 million ($756 million), while net profit reached AED151.9 million. This is the first time the airline—which began operations in 2009 and is wholly owned by the government of Dubai—has released any financial figures and none were available from 2011 for comparative purposes.

Ancillary revenues accounted for 16.5% of total revenues and would continue to be a significant component of the company’s earnings, Sheikh Ahmed said. Flydubai’s added-value services include inflight entertainment, seat preferences, checked baggage allowances, travel insurance and visa facilitation services.

The rapidly expanding airline, whose route network has grown from 25 to 52 destinations over the past two years, carried 5.1 million passengers in 2012.

The LCC operates an all-Boeing 737-800 fleet.

Sheikh Ahmed said it was possible that any new order for aircraft could be announced during the Dubai Air Show, which takes place in November.

ATW understands it has not yet been decided to what extent any new aircraft would replace existing examples or feed further expansion. An order for either the Airbus A320neo or Boeing 737 MAX families would be unlikely to arrive much before the end of the decade, by which time early examples in the current fleet would be approaching the 10-year mark.

PARIS (Dow Jones)--Le constructeur franco-italien d'avions régionaux turbopropulsés ATR a annoncé mardi que la compagnie aérienne Malaysia Airlines avait passé une commande ferme pour 20 ATR 72-600s, et pris des options pour 16 avions supplémentaires, pour un montant total de 840 millions de dollars (628,4 millions d'euros).

La signature de ce nouveau contrat fait suite à un protocole d'accord signé en décembre dernier, a précisé la filiale d'EADS et de Finmeccanica (FNC.MI) dans un communiqué.

La société indienne AVIATORS a signé aujourd'hui à Delhi un contrat portant sur 7 hélicoptères EC135, configurés pour des missions d'urgence médicale.

Une seconde commande devrait être passée plus tard dans l'année, pour répondre aux besoins croissants de développement de ce marché en Inde.

Les premiers appareils seront livrés dès 2013, faisant d'AVIATORS l'un des pionniers du secteur dans le pays.

Le contrat a été signé en présence du président français François Hollande.

L'EC135 est un biturbine léger dont le vol inaugural remonte à 1994.

Plus de 1.000 unités sont exploitées dans le monde à l'heure actuelle, dont la moitié pour des missions de secours médical. Il peut être équipé du moteur Turboméca Arrius 2B2 ou du Pratt&Whitney Canada PW206B2.

The Boeing Company and Air Lease Corp. (ALC) announced an order for 10 777-300ERs (extended range) airplanes on Thursday.

The order, valued at $3.2 billion at current list prices, adds to the growing portfolio of long-haul airplanes for the Los Angeles-based leasing company.

"This order for 777-300ERs will help us meet the growing airline demand for long-haul passenger airplanes," said John Plueger, president and chief operating officer of ALC.

“These 777-300ERs will enable our customers to grow and modernize their fleets.

The 777 offers our clients the most economical, fuel-efficient and versatile airplane in the 300-400 seat range, suitable for a variety of profitable missions."

ALC has ordered 185 airplanes from Boeing including 78 Next-Generation 737s, 80 737 MAXs, 12 787 Dreamliners and 15 777-300ERs. The leasing company also has reconfirmation rights on 20 additional 737 MAX airplanes.

The twin-engine Boeing 777-300ER can carry 386 passengers up to 7,825 nautical miles.


The planes are equipped with GE90-115B engines, the world's most powerful commercial jet engine.

Over 1,000 777s have been delivered through the end of January and a total of 1,441 have been ordered from 66 customers around the globe.

Cathay Pacific Airways has ordered three additional Boeing 747-8 freighters, bringing to 13 the total number of 747-8Fs it has ordered.

Eight 747-8Fs have already been delivered to the Hong Kong-based carrier. The latest order also includes options for five 777Fs.

Boeing said it has now received orders for 70 747-8Fs from nine customers; 28 have been delivered to six airlines.

Cathay Pacific said in a filing last week with the Hong Kong stock exchange that it has cancelled orders for eight 777Fs.

These aircraft appear to be the eight 777Fs Air China said it was ordering last week to be used by Air China Cargo, which is a joint venture between Air China and Cathay Pacific.

Turkish Airlines has confirmed to ATW that it remains in continuing negotiations with both Boeing and Airbus regarding a potential order for narrowbody aircraft.

German media had reported that Turkish recently ended talks with Airbus regarding a potential order for up to 120 A320 family aircraft.

The airline reportedly told Airbus it wants more Turkey-based suppliers involved in A320 manufacturing. But Turkish has not stopped talking to Airbus, an airline spokesperson said.

Separately, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan held meetings last week when Merkel brought an economic delegation to Turkey.

During the visit, possible cooperation between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa was reportedly discussed.

Russia’s Ilyushin Finance Co. (IFC) leasing company is planning to order 22 Irkut MC-21s and up to 20 Sukhoi Superjet 100s (SSJ100s).

The deals should be approved by company shareholders at the end of March, IFC CEO Alexander Rubtsov said.

The company placed a firm order for 28 MC-21s, plus 22 options, at the MAKS Airshow in August 2009. With the new contract, the number of firm orders will grow to 50 aircraft.

Last month, IFC ordered 32 Bombardier CSeries 300s, scheduled for delivery from 2015 to 2018.

Rubtsov said most of the CS300 and MC-21 aircraft will be delivered to carriers in the Commonwealth of Independent States, Latin America and the Caribbean, where it has previously placed aircraft. Currently, Cubana de Aviacion operates three IFC-delivered Ilyushin 96-300s and four Tupolev Tu-204s.

“[The] MC-21 and CS300 have much in common as 65% of the suppliers in these projects are the same,” Rubtsov said. “So we will promote them on the market in pair. The aircraft capacity is different; those types will supplement each other.”

The CS300 can be configured with 120-160 seats and the MC-21 with 150-200 seats.

Both the CS300 and MC-21 will be equipped with Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan engines.

The PW1500G for the CSeries received Transport Canada type certification last month.

The MC-21 will be powered by the PW1400G.

Airbus announced Thursday an order from Lufthansa for 100 A320 family aircraft and two A380s, worth $11.2 billion at current list prices.

The order includes 35 A320neo, 35 A321neo and 30 A320ceo aircraft, all of which will be equipped with Airbus’ fuel-saving sharklets wing tips.

TURKEY'S national carrier Turkish Airlines says it will buy up to 117 planes from the European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, with deliveries scheduled between 2015 and 2020.

"The airline's board of directors announced 117 air planes will be joined to the existing fleet," the airline said in a statement announcing the deal estimated to be worth $US9.3 billion ($A9.00 billion) at catalogue prices.

The order centres on Airbus' A320 medium-haul family and includes firm orders for 82 planes and an option for 35 additional planes.

The plane maker said engine selection would be made at a later date.

Most of the orders are for more fuel efficient planes in the A320 stable including the bestselling A320neo which is due for delivery in late 2015.

Indonesian carrier Lion Air is ordering 234 Airbus twinjets, including 174 from the re-engined A320neo family.

Its firm agreement covers 109 A320neo and 65 A321neo, and will also feature 60 current A320 jets.

They will be delivered over 2014-26. Airbus values the agreement at $24 billion at catalogue prices.

Weststar ( Malaysia ) commande 2 Eurocopter EC 225

Eurocopter has received an order for two EC225s from Weststar Aviation Services, which is based at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Malaysia.

The heavy-lift helicopters will see service in the oil & gas sector.

Weststar operates a fleet of 34 helicopters including the EC120, EC135, AS350/355, AS365 Dauphin, AgustaWestland AW139 and Sikorsky S-76C++, as well as a number of fixed-wing aircraft.

Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Porter Airlines has signed a conditional purchase agreement for 12 CS100 airliners, with options for an additional 18 CS100 aircraft.

The agreement also includes purchase rights on six Q400 NextGen aircraft. The parties also disclosed that Porter Airlines is the unidentified, Americas-based customer that signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for CS100 aircraft as announced by Bombardier in December 2012.

Today's announcement was made at Porter Airlines' home base at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, where alongside Bombardier, they also unveiled the CSeries aircraft flight deck and cabin demonstrator that will be on private display at Porter's facility during the month of April 2013.
