Barksdale AFB, La- A B-52H Stratofortress flew over the audience at the Independence Stadium during the
Independence Bowl Dec. 28 following the national anthem.

As a special feature the B-52 was carrying the Litening II targeting pod that focused on the Barksdale Honor Guard on the field. The live video feed was integrated into the Independence Bowl Jumbotron.

As of April 2008, 94 of the original 744 B-52 aircraft were still operational within the U.S. Air Force.

participate in Red Flag 09-5, an intense two-week combat scenario exercise. Red Flag is conducted on the 15,000-square-mile Nevada Test and Training Range, north of Las Vegas.
The exercise is one of a series of advanced training programs administered by the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center and Nellis, through the 414th Combat Training Squadron.

Future of the B-52

Even while the Air Force works on new bombers scheduled for [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] it intends to keep the B-52H in service until at least 2040, nearly 80 years after production ended.

This will be an unprecedented length of service for a military aircraft.

The USAF continues to rely on the B-52 because it remains an effective and economical heavy bomber, particularly in the type of missions that have been conducted since the end of the Cold War against nations that have limited air defense capabilities.

Additionally, a proposed variant of the B-52H was the EB-52.

This version would have modified and augmented 16 B-52H airframes with additional electronic jamming capabilities.

This new aircraft would have given the USAF an airborne jamming capability that it has lacked since retiring the [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien].

The program was cancelled in 2005 following removal of funding for the stand-off jammer.

The program was revived in 2007 but funding was again canceled in early 2009.
