MAJ Robin Olds' first 'SCAT X' while assigned as operations officer to the 39th Photo Recon Squadron, attached to the 412th FG at March Field, CA. The vertical fin carries his WWII victory scoreboard, indicating 24 'kills' and 30 locomotives.

The 'kill' count includes ground victories as well; the scoreboard was a feature of all 29 412th birds while flying
Project COMET, a transcontinental barnstorming tour in May 1946.

I've documented the paint schemes for all assigned birds, and ID'd the pilots for all but a handful of them. Most of the drivers were WWII combat veterans.

His second 'SCAT X' was P-80A 44-85027 to which he transitioned sometime in June 1946.

When I interviewed him back in the late 1990s about his time at March, he had no explanation for why he named both birds the same, rather than consecutive numbers.

All his birds were nicknamed 'SCAT.'
