[Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] it cut G150/G200 production from 69 aircraft in 2008 to 30 aircraft in 2009 and [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] this was trimmed to only 24 aircraft. Chief executive Joe Lombardo says G150 and G200 sales remain "very slow" and the manufacturer is now planning a meeting with partner Israel Aerospace Industries to discuss a further cut.
IAI produces all G150s and G200s as green aircraft before their completion at Gulfstream facilities in the USA.
Gulfstream parent General Dynamics' second quarter earnings report says the midsize market "continues to struggle with large inventories and considerable pricing pressure", and Lombardo says a further production cut is possible to match demand, but any new rate would be decided jointly with IAI.
But, he adds that while there is still "pressure" on the G150 and G200 "we're seeing a little better response from the customer base on large aircraft". He says all 73 large-cabin delivery slots for 2009 are now sold and there are no plans
to further reduce its large-aircraft production rate.
In March Gulfstream cut large-jet production, which had reached 87 aircraft in 2008 and was due to increase to 94 in 2009, to 73 aircraft. Deliveries are again expected to be "in the low 70s" in 2010, according to General Dynamics.
While second quarter revenues were down 16% year-over-year, Gulfstream had its best quarter in terms of new sales in one year. The critical book-to-build ratio also returned to above 1:1.
Despite slashing production, Gulfstream has not slowed down development [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]. Lombardo says both aircraft will make their first flights this year.

Gulfstream is developing clean sheet successors to its G450 and G550 large-cabin business jets, building off its flagship G650, FlightBlogger [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] Tuesday, citing unnamed industry sources.
The company is holding a competition to select a next generation engine for the aircraft, according to the story.

Gulfstream readying G450, G550 successor
By [url=mailto://]Jon Ostrower[/url]
"Flagship" ! Voilà pourquoi RR l'a bien visé !
La stratégie est claire !Gulfstream has declined to comment on the project, but development of a new clean-sheet design for its large-cabin jets would be its third recent all-new design, after the super-midsize G250 and large-cabin ultra-long-range G650, which is undergoing flight-testing and is expected to be certificated in 2011 followed by first delivery in 2012.
A replacement for the G450 and G550 would compete directly with Dassault's Falcon 7X and 900LX, as well as [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]'s Global Express XRS and 5000.
.... motorisés respectivement par RR Tay 611-8 & RR BR-710, .....The G450 has a range of 8,050km (4,350nm) at Mach 0.88 with eight passengers and three crew aboard.
Production of the G450 and G550
......has slowed in the past year as the global recession forced deferrals and cancellations of the company's large-cabin aircraft. Gulfstream expects to deliver 77 large-cabin G450s and G550s this year, up from 75 in 2009, but down from 2008, when the airframer delivered 87.
"Wait & see" !Some analysts believe the business jet market has reached the bottom of a sharp decline set off by the 2008 credit crisis and subsequent recession, so the initiation of new projects may represent a resurgence of industry confidence.
Voir remarques dans post précédent !That decline in large-cabin aircraft, says one industry analyst, could be reversed with both a new model to stimulate demand, as well as the positively changing fortunes of the economy.
The G450 successor, expected to be the first of the two new jets launched by Gulfstream, joins Bombardier on a growing list of new large aircraft in development.
The Canadian airframer is rumoured to be in advanced development of a new ultra-long-range offering, codenamed the M170, to take on the G650.

A suivre...Rolls-Royce Rejected For NextGen Large Aircraft
General Electric and Pratt and Whitney appear to be poised for battle over Gulfstream’s new large cabin design after the business jet maker ousted long-time supplier Rolls-Royce from the contest.
The decision, which Gulfstream declines to comment on, marks the first time in more than 50 years that a heritage Gulfstream business aircraft moves forward into final design with a non-Rolls-supplied engine. If confirmed, the decision also denies Rolls another launch opportunity for its new RB.282 two-shaft design, the engine thought to have been its main contender for the Gulfstream concept code named P42.
In an oblique statement which hints that the contest may not yet be over, Rolls says, “We are in continuous dialogue with airframers about how our latest engine technologies could be applied to future aircraft. It would be inappropriate to comment whilst this dialogue is ongoing.”
The down-select also simultaneously hands a new chance to Pratt and Whitney, which is searching for applications for the PW800 since the 2009 suspension of its former launch platform, the Cessna Columbus. The PW800 core, currently under test in Montreal, also forms the basis for Pratt’s PW1000G geared turbofan. General Electric is also in the hunt with the NG34, a new-generation successor to the CF34 business and regional jet engine that will be based around the same ‘e-core’ as the Leap-X, a new technology replacement for the GE Snecma-built CFM56. GE says ongoing tests could lead to the availability of an initial NG34 around 2015.
The P42 is a clean-sheet successor to the G450 and will build on the all-new wing, fuselage and systems of the G650, currently in flight test. Requests for proposals for initial systems for P42 are believed to have been released to industry and the final engine down-select is concurrent with the early systems selection. Companies seeking potential business on the new project are understood to have been told to compete regardless of systems selections on the G650.
The G650 is powered by Rolls-Royce BR725s, and builds on an engine delivery tally that passed the 3,500 mark in 2008. Earlier service introductions prior to the G650 included the BR710-powered G550 and G500 in 2003 and 2004, respectively, and the Tay 611-8C powered G350 and G450 both in 2005. The Tay 611-8 powers the GIV, GIV-SP (later the G300/400), and Spey-powered GII and GIII. The era of Rolls dominance was ushered in the late 1950s with the Dart turboprop-powered GI.

News Release
GULFSTREAM INTRODUCES THE ALL-NEW GULFSTREAM G650
Flagship Jet Is The Largest, Most Technologically Advanced Aircraft In Gulfstream Fleet
SAVANNAH, Ga., March 13, 2008 – –Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today announced the introduction of an all-new business jet: the Gulfstream G650. With its ultra-large cabin and ultra-long range, the G650 establishes a new price and performance point for business-jet aircraft.
The G650 offers the longest range, fastest speed, largest cabin and the most-advanced cockpit in the Gulfstream fleet. It is capable of traveling 7,000 nautical miles at 0.85 Mach or 5,000 nautical miles at 0.90 Mach. Using an advanced aerodynamic design, the G650 has a maximum operating speed of 0.925 Mach, which will make it the fastest civil aircraft flying. It can climb to a maximum altitude of 51,000 feet, allowing it to avoid airline-traffic congestion and adverse weather.
Enhanced Cabin Environment“This is an exciting time in Gulfstream’s history,” said Joe Lombardo, president, Gulfstream Aerospace. “For 50 years, our company has been on the forefront of business-jet aviation. I can think of no better way to celebrate our golden anniversary than to introduce the Gulfstream G650. Created with significant input from customers who participate in our Advanced Technology Customer Advisory Team, a subset of our Customer Advisory Board, the G650 offers the most advanced flight deck and the widest array of cabin comforts. Its performance and aesthetics are unprecedented.”
Gulfstream expects to begin G650 customer deliveries in 2012. Based on the aircraft development schedule, the company projects it will receive Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Type Certification and validation by the European Aviation Safety Authority (EASA) in 2011. First flight of the aircraft is scheduled for the second half of 2009.
The PlaneView® CockpitComfort figures prominently into the G650. The unfinished aircraft cabin measures 102 inches wide and 77 inches high, making it the largest business-jet cabin. The extra space allows for a longer living area, more seat recline, expanded leg room and increased stateroom capabilities as well as larger galleys, lavatories, storage and crew rest areas. An 84-inch-wide floor provides for larger seats, wider aisles and the ability to seat three across.
The G650 provides the most comfortable and productive cabin environment. A cabin altitude of 4,850 feet at FL510 and 2,800 feet at FL410 reduces fatigue, increases mental alertness and enhances productivity, while a quieter cabin provides a more comfortable environment for conversation or relaxation. The aircraft’s advanced environmental control system features quieter air distribution and independently vented lavatories. The G650’s new 16 cabin windows, measuring 28 inches by 20.5 inches, are the largest in the industry, providing for even more natural light and visually expanding the aircraft’s already spacious interior.
Gulfstream’s Cabin Essential® design philosophy means all of the G650’s major cabin systems have been designed with redundancy so a single-point failure will not result in the loss of cabin functionality. That means a toilet always flushes; water is always available; and an entertainment source always works.
PerformanceThe G650 features the most technologically advanced PlaneView® II cockpit with a number of enhancements including: four 14-inch, adaptive, liquid-crystal displays; three standard PlaneBook® computer tablets; a smaller pedestal; a standby multifunction controller that combines current display controller functionality with standby flight instruments; and a fully automatic, three-dimensional scanning weather radar with an integral terrain database for efficient ground-clutter elimination.
In addition, the G650 uses state-of-the-art vision systems to improve both pilot situational awareness and flight safety. These standard systems include the Gulfstream Enhanced Vision System (EVS II), the Synthetic Vision-Primary Flight Display (SV-PFD) system and Head-Up Display (HUD II). Gulfstream is the first Part 25 Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to provide its customers with both enhanced and synthetic vision systems. Kollsman (EVS II), Honeywell (SV-PFD) and Rockwell Collins (HUD II) are major suppliers to Gulfstream on these three systems.
Working in concert, the EVS II and SV-PFD provide pilots with a superior view of the terrain, obstacles and approaches, regardless of the weather conditions outside the cockpit. EVS uses a forward-looking infrared (FLIR) camera to capture real-world images and project them on the pilot’s all-digital HUD II, while the SV-PFD uses three-dimensional, color terrain images that are derived from data stored in the Honeywell Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS).
“The Gulfstream G650 uses state-of-the-art avionics to give operators a visual edge,” said Pres Henne, senior vice president, Programs, Engineering and Test, Gulfstream. “But the G650’s advances extend beyond the cockpit. Every element of this aircraft was designed with safety, reliability, comfort, productivity and performance in mind.”
Because the G650 flight deck has the same basic layout as the G550, the pilot type rating for the G650 is expected to be the same as the GV and the other in-production, large-cabin Gulfstream business jets, with minimal differences training.
Reliable SystemsThe G650 is powered by the new Rolls-Royce BR725 engine, which produces 16,100 pounds of thrust at take-off. Manufactured by Rolls-Royce in Germany, the BR725 engine features a 50-inch swept fan with 24 blades for improved flow, increased efficiency, reduced noise and lower emissions. The G650 has fuel-burn levels comparable to those of smaller aircraft.
The BR725, in combination with the new, high-efficiency thrust-reverser system and an all-new aerodynamically optimized wing, means the G650 can meet the latest take-off certification requirements, has excellent “hot and high” performance and offers outstanding intercontinental range. For example, the G650 can travel the 6,370 nautical miles from Dubai to Chicago 88 minutes faster than existing long-range jets. It shaves 31 minutes off the 4,788-nautical-mile trip from Los Angeles to London and 50 minutes off the 5,932-mile trip from New York to Tokyo.
ManufacturingThe G650 offers a full three-axis fly-by-wire system that delivers a number of benefits to the user, including flight-envelope protection, increased redundancy and reduced maintenance. The system is the result of extensive testing in Gulfstream’s Advanced Flight Controls program, where designers and engineers have been flight-testing advanced signaling and actuation on a GV aircraft. Those efforts led to a redundant fly-by-wire system that exceeds certification requirements. The system features a quadruple-redundant flight-control computer system for commanding all flight-control surfaces. In addition, the system has a separate and dedicated back-up flight-control computer that provides an additional level of safety.
The G650 also has reliable electrical systems that use proven components. Two 40 kVA Integrated Drive Generators, a 40 kVA APU Generator and one 15 kVA Ram Air Turbine provide superior electrical power capacity, no-break power transfer capability and added redundancy for safe, reliable operation.
The G650 fuel system stores 100 percent of the aircraft’s 44,200 pounds of fuel in the wings. The G650 retains the G550 heated fuel return system but adds a new Fuel Quantity Monitoring System (FQMS). This system uses a new distributed architecture with redundancy to maintain fuel-quantity indication in the event of any single sensor failure. Additionally, the electronically controlled refueling feature automatically adjusts to provide accurate refueling under varying fuel temperature conditions.
To ensure all systems remain at peak performance, the Gulfstream G650 uses Gulfstream’s PlaneConnect® program, a maintenance link that automatically transmits aircraft maintenance information to the customer’s operations department with an optional copy to Gulfstream Technical Operations. This data can then be analyzed to identify systems’ condition status. It also allows for exceptionally fast maintenance turnaround times.
With overall system reliability improvements and with 600 hours between major inspections, the G650 is projected to have unmatched availability and dispatch reliability.
NOTE TO EDITORSThe G650 fuselage employs all-new structural design and manufacturing processes, including bonded skin panels, machined frames and precision assembly. These new methods not only improve aircraft quality, fit and finish, they also reduce assembly time and the need for an extensive parts supply. For example, the G650’s new window design is 16 percent larger but uses 78 percent fewer parts, thereby reducing assembly time 57 percent. This streamlined manufacturing cycle also consumes less energy.
The G650 will be produced in the recently completed 308,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at Gulfstream in Savannah.
In summary, Gulfstream’s all-new flagship jet, the G650, is a new, one-of-a-kind, high- tech, state-of-the-art airborne office that features an unmatched combination of characteristics: the largest and quietest cabin, the longest range and fastest speed and the most technologically advanced aircraft systems.
“It’s thrilling to see how far we’ve come since that day 50 years ago when the first Gulfstream I prototype took to the skies. We were the first then and we’re still the first now. And with the help of our customers, the support of our communities and the ingenuity of our employees, we’ll continue to make aviation history with cutting-edge advances that revolutionize the business-jet industry,” said Lombardo.

The RR Tay 611-8 / -8C power the Gulfstream GIV, GIV-SP, G300, G350, G400 .... & the G450, whch entered service in 2005.
(The G500 & G550 are powered by the RR B710, and the G650 by the RR BR-725).
-------------------------
There appear to have been no incidents or accidents due to Tay engine defects or performance / behaviour in operation, even in conversion of pilots between the RR Tay & RR-BR types !

Merci, Douglas !
( he said )

Before end April, 2008, the RR BR-710 had accumulated more than 2.6 million flight hours, without any dangerous engine-incident.

As in the case of the RR Tay, applications include military aircraft, or civil aircraft adapted and certified for the Miliary, where reliability is of prime importance (including NIMROD, where the whole planet know that RR / RR BR-710 have never, ... never been called into question, for any reason whatsoever).

The RR BR-725 has created a totally new "standard", raising performances to heights never before achievd by business jets (Gulfstream G650) or their engines. RR is the world market leader for business jet engines.

All this alleged garbage is pure hogwash ! The writer concerned would do better to stick to the facts, and stop writing fiction.

Bombardier a besoi d'argent.

Gulfstream G650 test aircraft crashes on takeoff, killing four
By Jon Ostrower
The US Federal Aviation Administration and Gulfstream Aerospace has confirmed has confirmed one of its five G650 test aircraft crashed at Roswell International Air Center Airport in Roswell, New Mexico, killing two pilots and two test engineers aboard.
According to the FAA, the aircraft - operating as Gulstream Test 31 - had spent the morning, approximately 2.5h, conducting takeoff-performance and brake testing when the aircraft when it was cleared for takeoff on runway 15, at around 09:30 local time.
On its takeoff roll the aircraft had "just gotten airborne" when the right wingtip struck the ground, causing the aircraft to lose altitude, collapsing the gear, skidding on the runway and catching fire.
The FAA says winds were under 10kts at the time of the accident.
Gulfstream Aerospace president, Joe Lombardo, says: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those who were lost," adding "We are cooperating 100 percent with the investigation."
Both National Transportation Safety Board and FAA investigators are enroute to the scene.
A source familiar with the accident says S/N 6002, registered N652GD, was the airframe involved. S/N 6002 first flew on 25 February 2010 and was tasked with validating the aircraft's systems, as part of the planned 1,800h certification campaign.
Gulfstream has targeted 2011 for FAA and EASA certification of the large cabin ultra-long range G650, with its first planned delivery in 2012.

Gulfstream holds to 12 green G650s this year
[Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] chief executive Jay Johnson says the company's [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] unit is moving forward with all "non-flying" aspects of G650 certification while an US National Transportation Safety Board continues its investigation of the 2 April fatal crash of a flight test aircraft, one of five in the nascent fleet.
C'est normal. Gulfsream a raison.
The NTSB in its initial report noted that the aircraft was performing a take-off with simulated engine failure to determine take-off distance requirements at minimum flap settings when the accident occurred. A final probable determination by the NTSB typically takes 12-18 months. Johnson says the company is working closely with the FAA in consultation with the NTSB to determine when it will be appropriate to resume test flights. [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] had expected to certificate the aircraft this year.
Information encourageante. A suivre.Meanwhile, assembly plans continue for the first tranche of aircraft. "I said we'd deliver approximately 12 green G650s this year, and I'm still in a place where I can do that," said Johnson.
Ceci est encourageant.Gulfstream delivered "strong" performance in the quarter, Johnson said, with revenues of $1.4 billion, roughly equal to the revenues from the first quarter of 2010, with a backlog growing to $17.9 billion.
Oui.A "healthy" interest in new aircraft is primarily coming from international quarters, accounting for 70% of new orders, said Johnson. Half of those came from the Asia-Pacific region including China, where Gulfstream gained orders for five large-cabin aircraft in the quarter.
A noter. Les questions viendront après !Johnson said order activity in the midsize sector, which includes the new G250, was "not as robust, but certainly improving". Gulfstream expects to certificate the G250 this year.

"We intend to be a pure Gulfstream operator," says Chai. He adds that since the G200 is no longer produced, the company will obtain its next G200 second hand.
"The G200 is the largest, roomiest, most comfortable, and longest private jet available for charter in Thailand," says Chai.
C'est le cas aujourd'hui !
