NASA’s newest airborne science aircraft, the C-23 Sherpa, departed on its first mission May 16 from the Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia to support the Carbon in Arctic Reservoirs Vulnerability Experiment for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. CARVE will be conducted from Fairbanks, Alaska, through September. The C-23 joined the science aircraft fleet in January 2012 expanding the capabilities of NASA’s manned aircraft to conduct science research worldwide.
