Re: Lockheed P-80 Shooting Star
The first production F-94C aircraft were delivered in July 1951, 387 examples being delivered before May 1954.
The largest problem discovered in service was that of the nose-mounted rockets which blinded the crew with their smoke and fire.

The most severe problem of firing the nose-mounted rocket was that the exhaust could cause a [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] of the jet engine and could lead to the loss of the aircraft.
Mid-wing fuel and rocket pods were added, each holding 12 rockets. Most of the time, the nose rockets were not
installed, and the mid-wing pod rockets were the sole armament.

The F-94C was retired from USAF service in 1959, as newer and more capable interceptors entered service.
Air National Guard units retired their F-94s a year later.

The Lockheed YF-97A was the early designation of the F-94C Starfire.
Lockheed built two prototype aircraft; the first, S/N 50-955, was constructed on speculation without military equipment.
Because of the USAF need for an all-weather interceptor and the delays in the North American F-86D and Northrop F-89 programs, a second militarized version of the YF-97A was built for evaluation (S/N 50-877).
The YF-97A was based on the F-94B, but was modified during the test program to carry 24 Folding Fin Aerial Rockets in the nose, thus becoming the first USAF fighter to be armed exclusively with rockets.
An order for 118 F-97As was reassigned as the first block of F-94Cs.
