Indian LCC GoAir inks deal for 72 Airbus A320neo
By Quintella Koh
Belle commande d'A320-NEO !Indian low-cost carrier GoAir has placed a firm order for 72 [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] A320neo aircraft worth $7.2 billion at list prices.
The airline expects to take delivery of them from 2015 and complete it by end-2020, said managing director Jeh Wadia. An engine selection between the CFM International Leap-X and Pratt & Whitney PW1100G has not been made, he added.
Another 10 options for regular A320s have been firmed up, and these will be delivered over the next 18-24 months, said Wadia. GoAir's existing fleet comprises 10 A320s, and the orders will significantly boost its presence in the growing, yet highly competitive, Indian domestic low-cost market.
Its main competitors are the larger carriers IndiGo and SpiceJet. IndiGo operates a fleet of 39 A320s and, in January, ordered 150 A320neo and 30 regular A320s. SpiceJet has a fleet of 30 [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]-800/900s, with another 33 due to be delivered. It has also ordered 15 [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] Q-400 turboprops.
GoAir intends to use its aircraft to grow its domestic network, saying that this remains "underserved".
"India will remain underserved beyond 2020, so (GoAir's) focus will be on the domestic market," said Wadia. "India offers a very huge opportunity. China has 1,100 aircraft, while India has only 350."

Cebu Pacific of the Philippines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus for the purchase of 30 A321neo aircraft. The carrier has also exercised existing options for seven more standard A320s, increasing to 41 its total firm orders for the Airbus single aisle product line. The aircraft will join an existing fleet of A319s and A320s flying on the carrier's fast growing domestic and regional network.
"The A320 Family has played a key role in enabling us to build an efficient, profitable, value-based business," said Lance Gokongwei, Cebu Pacific President and CEO. "The addition of more A320s and the A321neo allows us to expand further in the Asia-Pacific region, and continue offering our trademark low fares."
Cebu Pacific's extensive network covers 33 domestic and 16 international destinations, including Osaka, Seoul (Incheon), Beijing, Jakarta, Bangkok and Singapore.
"We are pleased that Cebu Pacific has reaffirmed its commitment to the A320 Family and is also now set to add the A321neo to its fleet," said John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer, Customers, Airbus. "With the A321neo Cebu Pacific will be able to fly more people further at significantly lower cost per seat than any other competing aircraft, and with less impact on the environment."
The A321neo is the largest model in the recently launched A320neo series, which incorporates new engines and large wing tip devices called sharklets. The advances will deliver fuel savings of 15 percent and additional range capability of over 500 nautical miles (950 kilometers), or the ability to carry two tonnes more payload at a given range. For the environment, the fuel savings translate into some 3,600 tonnes less CO2 per aircraft per year. In addition, the aircraft will provide a double-digit reduction in NOx emissions and reduced engine noise.
The A320 Family (A318, A319, A320 and A321) is recognised as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. Over 7,000 A320 Family aircraft have already been ordered and more than 4,700 delivered to more than 330 customers and operators worldwide. The A320neo series will have over 95% airframe commonality with the existing models, enabling it to fit seamlessly into existing A320 Family fleets
The new engines types offered on the A320neo Family are CFM International’s LEAP-X and Pratt & Whitney’s PurePower PW1100G.

Leasing firm ANI signs MOU for five Mitsubishi MRJs
Hong Kong-based leasing company ANI Group Holdings has inked a memorandum of understanding to buy five Mitsubishi MRJ regional jets.
ANI is a unit of Aero Nusantara Indonesia, an Indonesian maintenance, repair and overhaul firm that also leases aircraft to five carriers in the country.
The leasing company has not said whether it is taking the MRJ70 or MRJ90 variant. However, it said that it could order an additional 20 MRJs when Mitsubishi expands to cover the 100-seat class. The MRJ100 is still being studied and Mitsubishi has not made a decision on whether it would go ahead with the variant.
"We are very proud to be the first client for the MRJ in Asia outside of Japan. Indonesia is a rapidly developing market. Since this country is formed by more than 17,000 islands, has a population of more than 240 million people, and has a rapidly growing economy, airplane travel from city to city will undoubtedly increase as time goes on. Regional jets will therefore be essential for Indonesia," said ANI.
"We are expecting that the MRJ would form a family of competitive aircraft and we are considering an additional order of 20 when MRJ family is expanded to cover the 100-seat class. We are looking forward to receiving the MRJ and beginning operations in Indonesia."
Mitsubishi said that the deal with ANI will help it to market the MRJ in Asia.
"We have been strengthening our sales activities in the fast-growing Asian market. We are very excited to have ANI Group Holdings as our customer. We hope our next-generation MRJ regional jet will contribute to the business at ANI Group Holdings. This new order has encouraged us to boost our sales activities not only in Asia but in other world markets as well," said Mitsubishi Aircraft president Hideo Egawa.
Japan's All Nippon Airways (ANA), which helped launch the MRJ programme, has a firm order for 15 aircraft and 10 options. Trans States Holdings in the USA has a firm order for 50 MRJs and 50 options.
The MRJ is scheduled to make its first flight in the second quarter of 2012, with first delivery to ANA scheduled for the first quarter of 2014.

[Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]EVA Air plans fleet expansion with Chinese market in mind
EVA Airways, one of Taiwan's two major international carriers, intends to expand its fleet primarily to capitalize on China's growing market, EVA Air President Chang Kuo-wei said Sunday.
Chang, the youngest son of Chang Jung-fa, the founder of the airline and affiliated Evergreen Group, said EVA Air plans to acquire at least 20 new aircraft to replace its MD-90s and larger Boeing 747s, which are less fuel efficient than newer models.
The airline is considering the Airbus 321 and Boeing 777 as possible additions, Chang said during a chat with members of the Chinese-language media in Guam who were on EVA Air's inaugural flight to the Pacific island.
Chang was one of the pilots on the Boeing 777 flight that flew to Guam Saturday morning .
Among the passengers were three engaged Taiwanese couples planning to hold weddings in Guam who were given free round-trip business class tickets as part of the celebrations marking the new route .
The three couples, chosen from more than 800 applicants, were also given bridal gowns and suits, five-star hotel accommodation and a church ceremony, according to EVA Air.
The airline also plans to introduce aircraft with theme-based designs later this year, in line with two "Hello Kitty" aircraft it flew between 2005 and 2009 that featured the popular Japanese fictional character in its interior and exterior design.
"Similar colorful jets will be launched this year, but the theme will be a secret until the launch time," a high-spirited Chang said

Commande déjà comptbilisée.Boeing, Qatar Airways Announce Order for Six 777-300ERs
Boeing and Qatar Airways today announced an order for six Boeing 777-300ERs (Extended Range) airplanes at the international 2011 Paris Air Show. The order is valued at $ 1.7 billion at list prices.
As one of the fastest growing airlines in the world, Qatar Airways currently operates 25 Boeing airplanes: eight ultra-long range 777-200LRs (Long Range), 15 777-300ERs and two long-range 777 Freighters.
"We are expanding our international network rapidly and adding new routes and destinations that will extend Qatar Airways' reach across the globe, especially as we aim to open up more non-stop routes to popular and under-served cities around the world," said Akbar Al Baker, Qatar Airways' CEO. "We currently have 25 Boeing 777s in our fleet and its payload and range capability, reliability and economics have made this aircraft the backbone of our long-haul fleet."
"We are extremely pleased to be playing a role in the growth and success of Qatar Airways," said Jim Albaugh, president and chief executive officer, Commercial Airplanes Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "And we are grateful for the confidence and trust that Qatar Airways continues to place in Boeing – and in the 777."
In November 2007, Qatar Airways took delivery of the first of a 32 Boeing 777 order. Exercise of options subsequently increased the order to 40 aircraft of which 15 are pending delivery.
The Boeing 777 family is a complete family of jetliners that is preferred by passengers and airlines around the world. The market-leading 777 family has the ability to fly point-to-point nonstop to bypass crowded and busy hub airports.
This order was previously accounted for on Boeing's Orders and Deliveries website as unidentified in 2011.

Aircraft lessor GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) has signed its first contract with ATR, placing a firm order for 15 ATR 72-600 turboprops plus 15 options.
Four of the aircraft will be delivered in 2012 and 11 are scheduled for delivery in 2013, said ATR chief executive Filippo Bagnato during a press briefing at the Paris air show today. Deliveries of the 15 aircraft on option are planned to begin in 2014.
GECAS chief executive Norman Liu said the lessor is "actively marketing" the aircraft and has already found one customer, the identity of which is not being revealed at this stage.
"We see a lot of replacement opportunities in the future," said Liu, adding that the ATR 72-600s represent "a logical extension of our product family".
Bagnato described the deal, which is valued at $680 million at list prices, as "a very important achievement" for ATR, following on from the agreement it signed with another US lessor - Air Lease - in 2010.
The ATR 72-600 received European Aviation Safety Agency certification in May 2011 and is scheduled to enter service with launch customer Royal Air Maroc this summer.

[Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]Sriwijaya to acquire up to 30 Embraer 190s
Indonesian carrier Sriwijaya Air has tentatively agreed to acquire up to 30 Embraer 190 regional jets, a deal disclosed during the Paris air show.
Embraer said the agreement - which is "subject to final documentation" - comprised the acquisition of 20 E-190s with purchase rights for another 10.
The airframer values the deal at $856 million at list prices but added that it could reach $1.28 billion if all rights for the aircraft are exercised.
Jakarta-based Sriwijaya Air will fit the aircraft with 100 seats in a single-class layout.
"The airline identified a need for a dedicated fleet of 100-seat aircraft to replace some of its narrowbodies and to achieve its expansion objectives," said Embraer.
These include adding new frequencies on domestic routes and opening new non-stop services.
Sriwijaya Air chief executive Chandra Lie said the airline chose the Brazilian-built jet "because it best fits our strategy of developing new non-stop markets that are not economically viable with larger aircraft".
He added: "The new aircraft type also lets us redeploy our bigger jets elsewhere in the network, where their size is more compatible with demand."
In addition to flights from Jakarta, Sriwijaya will use the aircraft for services from Balikpapan, Makassar, Surabaya and Medan.

The A320 Family has exceeded 7,000 firm orders, with almost 5,000 delivered reaffirming its position as the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family. The A320neo has over 95 percent airframe commonality making it an easy fit into existing fleets while offering up to 500 nautical miles (950 kilometres) more range or two tonnes more payload at a given range.
The A320neo, available from 2015, incorporates new more efficient engines and large wing tip devices called “Sharklets” delivering significant fuel savings of up to 15 percent, which represents up to 3,600 tonnes of CO2 annually per aircraft. In addition, the A320neo provides a double-digit reduction in NOx emissions and reduced engine noise.
CFM’s LEAP engines incorporate revolutionary technologies never before seen in the single-aisle aircraft segment. The new engine combines advanced aerodynamic design techniques, lighter, more durable materials, and leading-edge environmental technologies, making it a major breakthrough in engine technology. Air Lease Corporation selects 50 A320neo Family aircraft, 11 A330 Family aircraft and one A321
Air Lease Corporation (ALC), the Los Angeles based aircraft leasing company has opted to expand its single-aisle and wide-body fleet portfolio with modern, eco-efficient Airbus aircraft. ALC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the 49th Le Bourget Airshow for 50 A320neo Family aircraft including 14 options. The agreement was signed today by Steven F. Udvar-Hazy, ALC Chairman and John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. ALC also announced orders for the acquisition of eleven A330 Family aircraft and one A321.
“This new order enables ALC to continue to offer its customers the most fuel efficient aircraft in the short and medium to long haul segments. The A320neo Family represents the industry’s new single-aisle benchmark and we look forward to seeing our customers benefitting from the cost savings it promises to deliver,” said Steven Udvar-Hazy, ALC’s CEO. “The A330 Family offers excellent economics in the mid-size widebody category today making it the ideal aircraft, right now and therefore an absolute must for the growth of ALCs portfolio”.
“We are delighted to see ALC continue to expand its portfolio with a new order for Airbus single-aisle and wide-body aircraft, a testimony to the integrated, eco-efficient aircraft family we offer across all market segments,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “The modern and efficient A320 and the A330 Families are and will continue to be the cornerstone of airline fleets worldwide as they offer an excellent return on investment thanks to their outstanding operational reliability and low operating costs.”
The A320neo is a new engine option for the A320 Family entering into service from 2015 and incorporates latest generation engines and large "Sharklet" wing tip devices, which together will deliver 15 percent in fuel savings. This reduction in fuel burn is equivalent to 1.4m litres of fuel – the consumption of 1,000 mid size cars. This saves 3,600 tonnes of C02 per aircraft per year, the amount of C02 absorbed by 240,000 mature trees. The A320neo NOx emissions are 50% below CAEP/6 and this aircraft also has considerably smaller noise footprint.
ALC has previously ordered a total of 51 A320 Family aircraft (30 A320s, 21 A321s) from Airbus of which four A320s have been delivered. With this new order, ALC’s cumulative orders and commitments for new Airbus aircraft will reach almost 100 (52 A320 Family, 36 A320neo Family and eleven A330 Family aircraft).
Over 7,000 A320 Family aircraft have already been ordered and more than 4,700 delivered to more than 330 customers and operators worldwide.

Voila !
