Après Air France Industrie, KLM E&M, Lufthansa Technik, SR Technics....en Europe,
Air Berlin Technik fait sa place !

Air Berlin Technik, subsidiary of the Air Berlin Group, is upgrading its customer portfolio as it has just succeeded in winning new servicing contracts for three of its maintenance stations.
At Munich Airport, Air Berlin Technik will support the Spanish
airline Iberia in Line
Maintenance; the servicing facilities at Berlin-Tegel will be used by Estonian Air, and the Air Berlin Technik personnel in Nuremberg will provide technical support for Sun Express.

With the new Zurich facility, Air Berlin Technik has just commissioned its 15th maintenance station. The station will be in charge of the Line Maintenance that is taken over from the technical service provider Jet Aviation. In addition to serving the Air Berlin Group, Jet Aviation also provides maintenance services for major airlines such as Continental, United and American Airlines as well as British Airways.

Wolfgang Kurth, Chief Maintenance Officer of the Air Berlin Group, sees the new contracts as confirmation of the technical competence of Air Berlin Technik:
"In recent years Air Berlin Technik has been able to continuously extend its range of maintenance services. I am very pleased that our maintenance know-how is not only used by our own fleet but also appreciated by a constantly
increasing number of other carriers."

SIA Engineering's fiscal first quarter net profits fell 23.2% to S$45.1 million ($31.3 million) due to falling maintenance, repair and overhaul revenues.

The maintenance arm of Singapore Airlines (SIA) says that revenues fell by S$6 million, or 2.4%, to S$244.2 million "mainly due to lower aircraft maintenance and component overhaul work". This was somewhat mitigated by an increase in the rectification and cabin maintenance work, and higher revenues from material usage.

Expenditure remained flat at S$231.9 million, with lower staff costs offset by higher material costs and unrealised foreign exchange losses due to a weaker US dollar.

"The group's weaker first quarter results reflect the downturn in airline travel and cargo demand. With continued uncertainties in global economic conditions and the impact of the H1N1 situation, the group's performance will continue to be affected until there is sustained recovery in demand," says SIA Engineering, which is listed separately from its parent on the Singapore stock exchange.

"The company has taken measures to trim costs. These include rationalisation of the workforce and shift patterns, management wage cuts and employee leave arrangements to better match demand. The group's 23 subsidiary, joint venture and associated companies have also taken the necessary steps. The group will closely monitor the operating environment and be ready to implement such additional measures as may be necessary."

Alcom business press

Singapore Technologies Engineering, the world's largest aircraft repair firm, reported Tuesday that its profit fell 9 percent for the second quarter of 2009, to S$108.7 million ($75.91 million) from S$119.9 million for the second quarter 2008. The decline was smaller than analysts expected by S$23.5 million, and the company said it expects a stronger second half of the year as it bids major projects in China, the Middle East and Asia.

Singapore Technologies Engineering is the parent company of ST Mobile Aerospace Engineering (MAE), which has about 1,200 workers at Brookley Field Industrial Complex, and VT Halter Marine, which has 1,500 employees at shipyards in Pascagoula, Moss Point and Escatawpa.

MAE performs a combination of repair and conversion work for clients including FedEx Corp., with which it has a contract to convert 87 Boeing 757 freighters.

Singapore Technologies' aerospace business enjoyed a $40 million, 9 percent revenue increase from the first to the second quarter, thanks in large part to delivering more of the converted 757s. Profit before tax for aerospace in the second quarter, however, was $60.9 million, 18 percent lower than the $74.1 million profit it realized in the second quarter of 2008.

Profit rose from the first quarter by 35 percent, from $39.8 million to $60.9 million, and the company said it is optimistic about the remainder of the year, despite current economic conditions.

"The aerospace sector continues to enhance its capabilities and solutions despite the global economic downturn," Tay Kok Khiang, sector president, said in a statement.
"With continued additions to its strong customer base, the sector is positioning itself for the eventual recovery in the aviation market."

In May, Singapore Technologies reported it had delivered eight of the converted freighters, a mainstay of work at the local facility.

In the marine sector, both revenue and profit increased, and Chang Cheow Teck, sector president, said both Singapore and U.S. operations continue to deliver steady growth.

The business had revenue of $245 million in the second quarter of 2009, compared with $201 million in the second quarter of 2008 and $234 million last quarter. Profit in the marine business grew from $20.7 million in the first quarter to $24.3 million in the second quarter.

Lufthansa Technik has agreed a deal with Qatar Airways to perform C-checks on the airline’s Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft.

The agreement was announced at a signing ceremony on August 27 at Qatar Airways’ headquarters in Doha.

A total of 24 aircraft will undergo C4-checks carried out by Lufthansa, in a programme expected to take around two and a half years to complete.

The checks will be performed on nine Airbus A320 family narrow-bodied and 15 Airbus A330 wide-bodied aircraft.

Present at the signing ceremony was Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker, Lufthansa Technik senior vice president sales and marketing Walter Heerdt, and Lufthansa Technik Malta CEO Louis Giordimaina. The signing was witnessed by the Maltese president Dr George Abela.

Lufthansa Technik has a large maintenance facility in Malta, which it recently upgraded to include wide-body aircraft such as the A330 type.

Speaking at the ceremony Al Baker said: “Lufthansa Technik satisfied all Qatar Airways’ demanding requirements to perform C4-Checks on our A320 and A330 aircraft. Lufthansa understands the commercial need for our aircraft to have minimum ground time whilst also ensuring the highest standards achievable.

“Qatar Airways operates one of the youngest fleet of aircraft in the skies, and we are proud to be at the forefront of aviation safety, having earlier this year completed our fourth IATA Operational Safety Audit with 100% compliance,” said Al Baker.

-- An aircraft check is generally classified into one of four categories: A, B, C, or D. The A and B-checks are considered light and conducted on a regular basis, while C and D-checks are more thorough, with a C-check conducted on an aircraft every 12-18 months or following a certain number of hours in service. D-checks are usually conducted every four to five years, and involve partial dismantling of the aircraft to allow the most exhaustive inspection of all aspects of an aircraft.

TAM, Brésil, reçoit l'autorisation FAA d'entretien d'avions du registre US

SAO PAULO, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TAM's Technological Center, the MRO business unit (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul), has just been certified by the American aviation authority, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), to be able to perform maintenance operations on aircraft registered in the United States.
With this seal of quality issued by the U.S. aviation authority, we amplify our array of MRO services offered and become the only Brazilian aviation company certified by the FAA, by the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) and by the ANAC (Agencia Nacional de Aviacao Civil - Brazilian Civil Aviation Agency).

"Now we are certified by the world's foremost aeronautical authorities. This is a recognition of the quality of our service. With these approvals, we can strengthen our service offering MRO to third parties and meet the major airlines in the market," states Ruy Amparo, Vice President of MRO.

The FAR 145 certification obtained authorizes us to perform all the major programmed maintenance operations (C and D checks), in addition to the revision of different aeronautic components. The process of obtaining this certification took 14 months and was preceded by extensive audits, in which all the technical and
quality procedures of our Technological Center were thoroughly checked over and verified by the U.S. aviation authority.

Expansion of services

This last August, we were certified by the DGAC (Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil), the organization from the Chilean government, to service Airbus A318 aircraft and their components for aircraft registered in Chile. The
certification was achieved after we were approved by the ANAC to perform maintenance on the Airbus A318 aircraft. It is the unit's first approval for an aircraft model that is not a part of our fleet. We are also certified in Chile to perform maintenance operations on A319, A320 and A321 aircraft.

Our Technological Center has also been approved by the ANAC and by the EASA to carry out all the major programmed maintenance operations on Airbus A318/A319/A320/A321 and A330 aircraft, both in our fleet and on third party aircraft, in addition to Fokker-100 aircraft. In addition, we are certified for the maintenance of
components of the Boeing aircraft that are being incorporated into our fleet and we are in the final process of certification for Boeing 767 aircraft.

Since January of 2007, we have had the IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit) certification, the most complete and accepted international acknowledgement in operational safety. The IOSA audit involves more than 950 requirements in 8 operational areas of a single airline company, including engineering and maintenance of aircraft, and others.

Our Technological Center is located in the city of Sao Carlos, in the interior of Sao Paulo State, and covers an area of 4.6 million square meters. In addition to maintenance hangars, the facility houses workshops for examining more than 3,000 aeronautic components.

D' Airtransportnews ( aout ) :

At the end of this year FL Technics (Lithuania), a leading aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider in Eastern Europe, is planning to accept the first Boeing 737 NG aircraft in Vilnius.

In August was completed the technical training of personnel. Two FL Technics specialist groups received theoretical training at the FL Technics training base in Vilnius, it was done by Lufthansa Technical Training and Aerotechnical Consulting & Coaching GMBH.
Practical training was organized in Germany, at the Lufthansa Technik aircraft maintenance base in Bremen.

“In order to serve the most common aircraft types, we invest into the renewal of our technical base, specialists’ knowledge and their qualification. 0.5 million Litas was assigned for the training and approximately 2 million Litas will be
invested in equipment", says Jonas Butautis, CEO of the FL Technics.

According to him, the need to expand the Lithuanian company’s portfolio was influenced by the change of the aircraft fleet in the European region. About ten FL Technics customers from Russia, Ukraine, Norway, Italy and other countries use Boeing 737 NG and this type is gradually replacing Boeing 737 CL. J. Butautis predicts that within the next 5 years the number of this aircraft type in the CIS countries alone will grow up to 50, and in the EU market their number will exceed 1000.

According to the CEO of FL Technics, in addition to capacity of Boeing NG the company is planning to add Airbus 320, ATR 42-300/500 and ATR 72-300/500 to the portfolio by the end of 2010. This will allow the Lithuanian company to service all the airline companies, which have their bases within about 1000 km radius around Lithuania and carry out flights by using the most common medium-range and regional aircraft.

MRO EUROPE/HAMBURG--

With its facility in Norway already running and growing beyond the current 100 shop visits a year, Pratt & Whitney's Shanghai CFM56 engine overhaul center will open as a second facility on Sept. 24, Thomas Hutton, Pratt's VP for Global Repair Services tells the MRO Europe symposium in Hamburg.

The Shanghai business is a joint venture that Pratt has established with China Eastern. The site will be larger than Norway's and handle a greater number of turbofans--up to 300 per year.

More growth is planned before year-end. That's when Pratt and joint venture partner Turkish Technic are slated to open a third CFM56 engine maintenance facility.

Plans for the Shanghai facility were announced in 2006 as part of Pratt securing a 15-year maintenance deal for China
Eastern CFM56 engines. The site will do work on -3, -5B, and -7 models.

The growth in those businesses comes even as Pratt is restructuring its support services business, shifting work between facilities as it closes down some because of the downturn in the global aviation market. The site closures are necessary to keep the company's cost structure competitive, Hutton says.

Panneaux composites

Bombardier Customer Services is offering a new enhanced overhaul capability for the V2500-A5 engine nacelle at its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facilities in Belfast and Dallas, it was announced today at MRO Europe, a major exhibition which brings together operators and aircraft service providers. Bombardier is exhibiting its range of
maintenance, repair and overhaul services for commercial and business aircraft customers at Stand No 354.

Describing the new service, Stephen Addis, Director, Bombardier Customer Services, Belfast, said:
“We have a long experience of manufacturing and supporting high-quality components for the V2500-A5 engine nacelle. Our enhanced capability offers an innovative repair solution for operational damage to nacelle panels. Rather than replacing complete components, we can now restore panels to their original specification while still maintaining their acoustic properties.”

The nacelle’s inlet cowl acoustic panels comprise a composite sandwich structure covered by steel wire mesh. The panel is stripped back to the backing tray and built up again using a process which ensures the component’s structural and acoustic integrity is restored, and the panel is fully functional again at a fraction of the cost of replacing it.

“We are delighted to offer an enhanced service to customers to help reduce their expenditure on spares and maintenance”, added Mr. Addis. “This durable repair solution was engineered using our considerable product experience in designing and manufacturing engine nacelles. It is the latest in a series of developments designed to deliver optimum value to our customers, which has included extending our repair and overhaul services at Belfast and opening a new facility in Dallas to more closely serve our US customers.”

Over the past few weeks, MTU Maintenance Hannover has succeeded in winning engine maintenance business
worth a total of some 50 million euros.
The contract with the biggest single order volume was awarded by Air New Zealand. Dr. Stefan Weingartner, President and CEO, Commercial Maintenance at MTU Aero Engines, commented: "This deal goes to show that you can score successes even amid difficult economic times if your offering is competitive in terms of quality and reliability."

Air New Zealand will be sending 38 CF6-80C2 powering its Boeing 747-400s to MTU's Langen-hagen-based affiliate for maintenance, repair and overhaul. The contract follows up on an agreement signed in 2006. The time & material agreement was concluded on an exclusive basis for a term of five years.
Air New Zealand's decision to pick MTU as its MRO provider was prompted by the airline's good experience with the quality of the maintenance specialist's repair work, its custom-tailored service packages and the resulting high time on wing.

The CFM56-7B26/3 engines powering the new B738s will be the advanced Tech Insertion configuration, which will provide the airline with lower maintenance costs, improved oxides of nitrogen (NOx) emissions, and better fuel burn. Tech Insertion includes improvements to the high-pressure compressor, the combustor, and the high- and low-pressure turbines

Under the agreement, CFM will provide full support for the engines including technical training, engineering and repair, as well as spare parts provisioning.

Malaysia Airlines will be using the new aircraft primarily within the ASEAN region, including domestic Malaysian operations as well as routes to Australia, China and India.

"We are very pleased and honored that Malaysia Airlines has chosen to make CFM such an integral part of its business," said Mr Thomas Wygle, Vice President Asia Pacific Sales. "We believe that the technology benefits provided by the CFM56-7B will help Malaysia achieve its long-term goals."

Goodrich Corporation today officially unveiled its new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility located in Sao Carlos, Brazil in the TAM Technological Condominium.
The facility, Goodrich do Brasil, will initially focus on repairing International Aero Engine (IAE) V2500-A5 engine inlets, fan cowls and thrust reversers for customers in Latin America and the Caribbean. Capabilities will be expanded in the near future to service other nacelle platforms currently operating in the region.

Goodrich do Brasil, part of the Goodrich Aerostructures global network of nacelle and advanced composite MRO facilities, will provide localized support for customers including MRO services and access to a pool of rotable assets. The 10,000 square foot site serves as an interim location; in 2010 Goodrich will begin renovations on a 40,000 square
foot permanent facility adjacent to TAM's heavy maintenance facility in Sao Carlos.

Ruy Amparo, vice president of MRO TAM, said, "The relationship with Goodrich has now gained a new dimension with greater synergy in service, delivery, cost reduction, and business opportunity creation. Goodrich is one of our most important suppliers and is also the first international company to settle in our technology complex, which is already home to our MRO business unit and the TAM Museum.
We are very optimistic about this expanded relationship."

Bob Gustafson, vice president and general manager of aftermarket services for Goodrich Aerostructures, said "Goodrich do Brasil is a clear demonstration of our commitment to serving customers with speed and ease.
We announced our intent to establish a MRO facility in Brazil back in 2007 as part of a service agreement with TAM, and we see great long-term growth potential in the Latin American and Caribbean market."

CFMI s'installe à Hyderabade, Inde. Les petits plats dans les grands :

GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd., (GHIAL), has signed an agreement with the world’s leading aircraft engine manufacturer, CFM International (CFM), to establish a new CFM56 maintenance training center to support its customers in the South Asian region.
CFM International is a 50/50 joint venture between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) of France and General Electric Company (GE) of the United States.
This training center, which will commence operations by late January 2010, will be located in the GMR Aerospace Park, being developed in the exclusive 250 acre aviation SEZ, that forms part of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport complex.
This aviation SEZ has been recently notified by the government of India. GHIAL will build the facility and
lease it to CFM.
The agreement, which cements a Memorandum of Agreement executed in January 2009, was signed here last night in the presence of the French Minister for Foreign Trade, H.E. Ms. Anne-Marie Idrac, by Mr. P. Sripathy, CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited and Mr. Paul-Andre Chevrin, CFM International Vice President for India.

Also present on the occasion were members of the visiting French Trade delegation, comprising their Members of Parliament, Mr. Nicolas Forissier, Mr. Andre Ferrand and Mr. Jérôme Bonnafont, the French Ambassador to India, amongst others.

Baisse coté airframe, les Passenger to cargo conversion Boeing feraient mal ?

SIAEC Group posted a profit attributable to equity holders of $106.2 million, which was $25.9 million or 19.6% lower than the corresponding period last year.
Revenue declined $37.2 million or 7.0% to $492.3 million, mainly attributable to lower airframe maintenance and component overhaul work as airlines reduced aircraft utilisation in tandem with the weak demand for air travel.

This decrease was partially mitigated by higher Line Maintenance revenue generated from an increase in rectification and cabin maintenance work and more flights handled, primarily for low cost carriers.
There was an increase in Fleet Management revenue arising from a larger fleet size of existing customers and, the addition of new customers.
However, the revenue from the turnkey project to redesign, retrofit and overhaul a B747-400 was lower as the project was completed in the fourth quarter of FY 2008-09.
