SIA inks deal for 15 more Airbus A330-300s
Singapore Airlines has reached an agreement with Airbus to lease another 15 A330-300s for its fleet.
These aircraft will both replace older Boeing 777s in the Star Alliance carrier's fleet and grow its capacity in the coming years. They will be delivered from the Airbus production line between 2013 and 2015, said SIA.
The A330s, which will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines, will be leased for a minimum of six years, with an option for an extension. They will be operated on regional and medium-range routes to Asia, Australia and the Middle East, said the carrier.
SIA's fleet already has another 19 A330-300s that it initially got on five year leases, and these could remain in service for even longer.
C'est la vérité, .. et c'est la combinaison du pragmatisme et de la flexibilité !"There is an option to extend that lease, and there is flexibility on the length of the lease extension," said a spokesman.
Des informations significatives !The carrier also has 20 Boeing 787-9s and 20 Airbus A350-900s on firm order, according to information in Flightglobal's ACAS database. The 787s were initially due for delivery in 2011, but multiple delays in the programme means that this has now been pushed to 2013 at the earliest.
"We remain in discussions with Boeing on the delivery date for the 787s. The first delivery of the A350s is scheduled for the 2013/14 financial year," said SIA's spokesman.
Tout à fait !SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong added: "Together with the additional [Airbus] A380s that we are taking delivery of this year, as well as A350s and 787s on order for the years ahead, the lease of the A330s is consistent with our longstanding policy of operating a young and modern fleet."
Oui ! The spokesman said that SIA has not decided on the aircraft for its new long-haul low-cost subsidiary, which is due to begin operations within the next year. The airline has said that it would initially provide aircraft to the subsidiary, but the spokesman reiterated that these A330s are for the full service carrier's operations.
Tout à fait !Receiving more A330s, however, would allow SIA to transfer some 777-200s in its fleet to the new subsidiary. These 777s could be upgraded to have an extended range and their cabin can be retrofitted for the low-cost operations, said industry sources.

Rolls-Royce wins $1bn order from Singapore Airlines
Wednesday, 29 June 2011
Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has won a $1bn order from Singapore Airlines to supply Trent 700 engines to power 15 Airbus A330 aircraft, along with TotalCare® services support.
The Trent 700 is the most fuel efficient, cleanest and quietest engine on the A330. Since it entered service in 1995, Rolls-Royce has continued to improve its performance by incorporating advanced technology from the Trent 900 and Trent 1000. These enhancements have delivered a one per cent reduction in fuel consumption, which saves 800 tonnes of CO2 per aircraft, per year.
Considérable !
Singapore Airlines already operates 19 Trent 700-powered A330s, the first of which was delivered in 2009.
Nick Devall, Rolls-Royce, Chief Commercial Officer – Civil Aerospace, said: “The Trent 700 has proven itself to be the most efficient engine for the Airbus A330. Our continuous investment in the improvement of our products has ensured that the Trent 700 is the clear leader in the market. Singapore Airlines has been a great partner and we are delighted to extend this relationship further.”
Le discours du rituel !
The Trent 700, the only engine designed specifically for the A330, has won more than 75 per cent of orders in the last three years. More than 1,300 Trent 700 engines are now in service or on order.
Impressionnant !

Singapore Airlines to expand fleet with 15 more A330s
Underscores continued popularity of the best-selling mid-size widebody
29 June 2011
Il est bon de noter le "repeat business".Singapore Airlines (SIA) has finalised an agreement with Airbus to expand its fleet with 15 more A330-300s. The aircraft will join an existing fleet of 19 A330-300s at the carrier, flying from Singapore to destinations across the Asia-Pacific region and to the Middle East. As with the carrier's existing A330 fleet, the new aircraft will be powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engines.
"Reliability" / 'fiabilité' !"We are extremely pleased that Singapore Airlines will add further A330s to its fleet," said John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer, Customers, Airbus. "The news underscores the position of the A330 as the most popular aircraft in its class, offering levels of comfort, efficiency and reliability that continue to make it a winner with airlines worldwide."
Oui !The twin engine A330 is one of the most widely used widebody aircraft in service today. To date, Airbus has won more than 1,100 orders for the various versions of the aircraft and more than 750 A330s are currently flying with over 80 airlines worldwide. In addition to passenger and freighter models, the A330 is also offered in VIP and Military Transport/Tanker variants.

Qatar Airways beats SIA to win best airline award |
Qatar Airways has surprised established heavyweights by clinching the title of Best Airline at the latest World Airline Awards.[
The Middle Eastern carrier beat out Singapore Airlines (SIA) for the top spot.
SIA finished second for the third year running in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards, held during the Paris Air Show last week. It last clinched first place in 2008.
Last year's winner, South Korea's Asiana Airlines, finished third this time round. Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific and Thai Airways rounded out the top five.
SIA win the title of Best Airline in Asia, and the Best Airline for Business Class. It finished second in the Best Airline In-flight Entertainment category behind Emirates airlines.
About 18.8 million airline customers participated in the Skytrax survey, which took place over 10 months from July last year.
The survey, which covered more than 200 airlines from large international carriers to small domestic ones, measured more than 38 different aspects of passenger satisfaction.
Airlines were graded for their performance both on the ground and aloft. At the airport, that meant the efficiency of check-in and boarding procedures, handling of delays and arrival services.
In-flight, respondents were asked to assess onboard amenities, conditions of the planes, and service of cabin crew.
L'enquête est faite très sérieusement !
Doha-based airline Qatar Airways has climbed steadily in the rankings from seventh place three years ago.
The airline is expanding aggressively - it has an expansion plan that will see it serve 120 destinations by 2013.
It intends to grow its fleet of 96 aircraft to more than 120 during the same period.
Oui.
UOB Kay Hian analyst K. Ajith said the results indicate that the Middle East is gaining prominence as an aviation hub. Its airlines will in turn gain popularity, he said.
Two other Middle Eastern carriers finished in the top 10 of this year's rankings - Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways in sixth place, and Dubai's Emirates in 10th.
He added that the awards were not only representative of the comfort and luxury experience provided by individual airlines, but also other factors such as price.

- a quel point ils ont compris (mal compris) le débat récent sur le MRO que RR veut se garder, au lieu de l'accorder à AFI, dans le cadre d'acquisitions éventuelles, voire probables, d'A350-XWB par AF / AF-KLM ;
- comment ils ont pu écrire leurs âneries, ou ne pas comprendre les réponses et commentaires qu'ils ont lus sur le sujet (car ils nous lisent, entre autres ! ), et le bien-fondé de nos écrits, et de ceux d'autres auteurs, qui connaissent bien le sujet ;
- ce qui les empêche de voir l'inévitabilité de bien séparer et d'avoir à bien séparer l'airframer du motoriste (Qui voit Airbus ou Boeing comme motoriste, voyons ? Ou chacun de GE , P&W at RR comme 'vassal', ou sous-traitant de ces airframers ? ), et les métiers des Cies. aériennes (AFI est un genre de sous-traitant de GE, parce que cela convient à AFI & à GE, qui n'a pas les ressources adéquates aujourd'hui pour assurer les travaux que d'autres OEM -- motoristes-- préfèrent conserver systématiquement, y compris au travers de Joint Ventures réussies) ;
- ce qui les emêpche de voir le ridicule de leur position, qu'ils défendent avec une hargne indue et futile , comme quoi l'airframer devrait pouvoir imposer (dans le marché libéral ! ) l'obligation à un motoriste de consentir les travaux MRO à la cie. cliente qui veut nourrir ses propres activités MRO, selon son 'diktat' ;

Singapore Airlines selected the Boeing 777-200 as the aircraft type to comprise the fleet of its new long-haul, low-cost subsidiary airline scheduled to launch next year ([Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]).
The aircraft will "initially" be acquired from SIA, which did not say how many 777-200s will make up the unnamed LCC's operating fleet. SIA had 35 777-200ER's in its fleet as of March 31, according to Ascend.
The aircraft will be reconfigured in a new seating layout for the LCC that will almost certainly feature a 10 across 3-4-3 configuration in economy.
Campbell Wilson, newly named CEO of the LCC, said, "The selection of the initial fleet marks another milestone in the establishment of the new airline. The process is progressing well for our launch next year."
SIA said in a statement that "the aircraft type was selected following a detailed evaluation ...
The 777-200's proven versatility and reliability are key deciding factors in the selection."
It called the 777 "a mainstay" of its fleet since its 1997 introduction.
In addition to the 35 777-200ERs, SIA's fleet as of March 31 also featured 31 777-300/300ERs.
The new LCC will be wholly owned by SIA, but will be operated independently and managed separately, operating no-frills, medium- and long-haul flights.
"Details of its branding, products and services, and route network will be unveiled in the coming months," SIA stated.

The aircraft, with the registration 9V-SKH, was en-route to Hong Kong from Singapore on 25 July when the incident happened.
As a result, the pilots shut off the engine and turned back to Singapore, an SIA spokeswoman said.
SIA's engineers, together with personnel from [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] and Rolls-Royce, have inspected the engine and replaced it on 26 July.
The aircraft was returned to service on Wednesday and deployed on a Singapore-Sydney flight, the spokeswoman said.

The spokeswoman said investigations are ongoing and it is too early to say what led to the surge and vibrations.

The aircraft will "initially" be acquired from SIA, which did not say how many 777-200s will make up the unnamed LCC's operating fleet. SIA had 35 777-200ER's in its fleet as of March 31, according to Ascend.
Oui.

SIA said in a statement that "the aircraft type was selected following a detailed evaluation ...

Vrai.
It called the 777 "a mainstay" of its fleet since its 1997 introduction.

SIA to operate long-haul low-cost unit using Boeing 777-200s

The carrier will operate the aircraft on medium and long-haul routes. The order is valued at $2.3 billion at list prices, said SIA.

The aircraft will be powered by General Electric [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] engines and will join 19 [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]-300ERs already in service. With this deal for eight additional 777-300ERs, the airline will have firm purchase or lease orders with the two manufacturers for another 70 aircraft.

Oui ! Et le Conseil d'Administration "approuvera" !Boeing is about three years behind schedule in delivering the first 787, largely because of snags in the unusually complex global supply chain.
Albaugh also said the company plans to go to its board of directors later this month for approval of its plan to make a version of its best-selling 737 narrow-body plane with a new, fuel-efficient engine.
The re-engined model is already seeing strong interest, Albaugh said.
Conversion de certaines options que Cathay avait prises il y a déjà quelques années - (4 avions de ligne / passagers , et 8 x B777-200F, ce qui va diminuer le potentiel de ses commandes supplémentaires de B747-8F.Separately, Boeing said it took 19 new orders for 777s in the week ended August 10, including 12 orders from Cathay Pacific Airways, which were announced a day earlier.
Oui ! Et on ne peut pas faire l'amalgame entre des B777-200F et des B777-300ER !Nineteen 777 wide-bodies are valued near USD$5.4 billion at list prices. Cathay Pacific ordered eight 777 Freighters and four 777-300ERs.
Il est à noter que, chez certaines mauvaises langues (des ACL, bien sûr) il est dit que :Boeing has taken orders for a net total of 268 commercial planes so far in 2011.
(Reuters)

SIA Plans To Name New Low-Cost Carrier Scoot
Singapore Airlines (SIA) has registered the brand name Scoot for its new medium- to long-haul carrier with the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (Ipos), which is responsible for Singapore-registered trademarks.
Ipos says SIA filed an application on June 20 for rights to the name, and its application indicates it plans to use the brand name for airline and air travel services. When contacted by Aviation Week on Aug. 23, an SIA spokesman neither confirmed nor denied the new carrier is to be named Scoot. “Several names have been under consideration, but the management of the new airline is not able to confirm details of the branding at this stage. Details will be announced by the management of the new airline in due course,” he said.
The Singapore carrier is currently working to launch a medium- to long-haul, low-cost carrier next year that will operate Boeing 777-200s. This initiative is SIA’s response to price competition in Asia-Pacific from Middle Eastern carriers as well as from AirAsia X and Jetstar, two low-cost carriers that operate Airbus A330-300s.
The trademark application also gives some insight into how SIA may look to later leverage the Scoot brand beyond its medium, long-haul scheduled passenger airline. It says it wants its Scoot trademark to also cover aircraft chartering, travel agency services, booking for tours, tourist information services, sightseeing and cruise arranging services, package holiday services, frequent flyer programs, incentive programs, luggage storage services, cargo services, car hire services, and loyalty privileges such as priority boarding, check-in and ticket upgrades.

Singapore Airlines May Buy Airbus’s A350-1000 Jet After Upgrade, CEO Says
[Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] is considering an order for Airbus SAS’s A350-1000 jet as the European planemaker plans improvements in range and payload, Chief Executive Officer Goh Choon Phong said.
The airline is awaiting details of enhancements to [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]’s competing 777-300ER before deciding which model to purchase, Goh said today in a briefing at Airbus’s headquarters in Toulouse, [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien].
Goh declined to discuss how many planes Singapore Airlines might buy. It currently has 20 A350-900s on order, some of which could be upgraded to the -1000, in addition to a separate commitment for the larger model, which will receive improved Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines after the announcement in June.
“I was very glad to learn about the Airbus announcement,” Goh said. “Boeing has been talking about improvements to the 777-300ER. At this point we haven’t heard any details but we are looking forward to hearing about payload and range performance improvements.”
The A350 comes in three variants, with the mid-sized A350-900 being the most popular model. Airbus has maintained planned delivery of its A350-900 for the end of 2013, with Singapore scheduled to be the second customer after Qatar Airways Ltd., taking its first plane in 2013, Goh said today.
Range, Payload
Airbus said in June it would delay both the A350-1000 as it changed the design to offer more range and payload while also deferring the smallest version of the A350, which seats 270, to allow more time to work on the A350-900 as well as the A320neo single-aisle jet.
The changes on the A350-1000 variant included work on the landing gear and the outer part of the wing, Airbus said. The improved performance will allow the aircraft to service routes such as [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] to [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien].
Boeing has said it plans to offer upgrades on its 777-300ER model, the Chicago-based company’s largest twin-engine plane.
Improvements to the 777 will include the adaptation of technology used on the new 787 Dreamliner “before the A350-1000 is scheduled to enter service,” a Boeing spokesman, [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien], said in an e-mail. He didn’t elaborate and said Boeing doesn’t comment on discussions with customers.
Singapore Airlines ordered eight more 777-300ERs in August to tap growing regional and long-haul travel demand in the Asia- Pacific region.

Boeing studies service entry timing for planned new 777
Boeing a trop tergiversé !
It is our belief that the 777 family will be challenged, so we are going through conducting a widebody study to understand what sort of improvements we will need to bring to market."
Présentation fausse et trompeuse ! C'est Airbus qui a dû revoir sa copie, et se tourner vers le motoriste, ...... non pas pour un moteur "up-dated", ...... mais "UP-RATED" ![Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] added two years to the A350-1000 development programme, sliding its service entry to 2017, driven by a need to offer an updated Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine with higher thrust and airframe modifications for the higher maximum takeoff weights required by customers.
The capabilities of the new 777 "depends on our customers requirements, that depends on what in fact the A350-1000 turns out to be", said Piasecki. "And it also depends on the timing requirements of the marketplace and the dynamics between the [new 777] and the [787-10 variant], what sort of investment profile do we want to have and over what period of time and which airplane comes first."
A voir ! Cette formule s'avérerait bien plus chère que l'A330-300, et pas plus intéressante sur 96% des itinéraires où l'on trouve l'A330-300 aujourd'hui !The 787-10 variant, seen as a "relatively small statement of work", said Piasecki, would be a stretch of the 250- to 290-seat 787-9, and would offer a performance of approximately 320 passengers, twin 74,000lb (329kN) engines, with a range of 6,800nm (12,600km), slightly lower than its June estimate of 6,900nm.
Ahead of the 787-10's potential launch, Boeing plans to introduce the 787-9 at the end of 2013, which is expected to undergo its critical programme review (CPR) later in September "building off the load and flight test data on the 787-8", said Piasecki.

USA lashes out at EU's green plans

C'est dire la détermination des USA !The US House of Representatives has resumed its attack on the EU's emissions trading scheme (ETS) after it passed a bill prohibiting US carriers from taking part in the programme.
The European Union Emissions Trading Scheme Prohibition Act of 2011 was passed "overwhelmingly" by voice vote, said the House committee on transportation and infrastructure. If passed by the Senate and signed into law by President Barack Obama, the bill would prohibit US airlines from taking part in the scheme, which imposes emissions taxes on carriers flying into and out of the EU.
The bill also instructs US officials to take any action necessary to ensure that US carriers are not penalised by any unilaterally-imposed EU scheme.
"Only through international dialogue will we reach consensus on how to deal with a global challenge, but I am confident that - if our European friends will act in good faith - we will more than rise to the occasion," said Congressman Nick Rahall, one of the representatives who introduced the bill. "For the meanwhile, this bill will protect US airlines and all Americans who rely on them for travel and employment from the unjust effects of the EU's plan."
Two airlines have added their voices to chorus of disapproval surrounding the ETS. Speaking at a parliamentary reception in London, Phee Teik Yeoh, Singapore Airlines' UK general manager, said the best way of tackling emissions from aviation was a scheme that incentivised carriers to "purchase the best aircraft and develop greener solutions and practices", citing its operation of the Airbus A380 as an example.
La position prise par SIA est intéressante !
"We do not believe that the EU's emissions trading scheme is the best way to incentivise improvements," he added. "It is impractical for some economic zones to have an emissions trading scheme for aviation and others not to." Dr Christoph Franz, chairman of Lufthansa Group, also criticised the ETS. Speaking at a press conference unveiling the German carrier's nine-month results, he called for its implementation on 1 January 2012 to be suspended, if agreements with other countries cannot be reached by the end of the year. "European airlines must not become victims of this kind of struggle," he added.
On pourrait l'écouter, du moins !
La suggestion n'est pas ridicule !Both carriers called for a global scheme to be hammered out through International Civil Aviation Organization.
