TACA TAKES IAE V2500 FOR 15 ADDITIONAL A320-FAMILY AIRCRAFT
IAE International Aero Engines today announced that Grupo TACA, one of the leading Latin American airlines, has selected V2500 SelectOne™ engines to power an additional 15 Airbus A320-family aircraft. Supported by a V2500SelectSM aftermarket agreement, the value of this new deal is $400 million at list prices.
El Salvador-based TACA currently operates 37 V2500-powered A320 family aircraft and is awaiting delivery of a further four from a previous order, creating a total backlog of 19 aircraft with IAE engines. The airline’s relationship with IAE extends back to 1995 and in 1998 TACA ordered the V2500 to power 32 A320 family aircraft.
Roberto Kriete, Chairman and CEO of TACA, said: “We truly value the long-standing relationship that our two companies share and we’re delighted to continue this relationship with IAE with this new order. Our experience of the V2500 and the support we have received from IAE over the last 10 years has been excellent. “
IAE President & CEO Jon Beatty said: “The V2500 SelectOne™ is the best engine solution for the A320 family in today’s environment. It gives the greatest flexibility across TACA’s operations whilst delivering a substantial fuel-burn benefit. The airline’s decision to place a follow-on order for the V2500 is an indicator of the engine’s exceptional in-service performance and strength of our comprehensive offering.”
The 22,000-33,000lb of thrust V2500 is available in seven different thrust settings to power the Airbus A319, A320 and A321 Family of aircraft as well as the Airbus Corporate Jetliner. More than 5,000 V2500 engines are in service or on firm order.
****** Est-ce que cette ligne a une signification qui 'pèse' sur le choix futur de la motorisation des avions, objet de cette importante commande ?Around 75 per cent of Airbus A320s in service in Latin America are powered by the IAE engine. ******
The SelectOne™ build standard delivers an additional one percent fuel burn advantage, along with a corresponding reduction in CO2 emissions. It will improve time-on-wing by up to 20 percent, and demonstrate compliance with the most stringent CAEP/6 NOx standards. It entered service in October.

Spirit Airlines firms up 75 A320 Family order including 45 A320neo
Airlines has finalised its firm order for 75 Airbus single-aisles including 45 A320neo aircraft (new engine option). The original Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was announced at the 2011 Dubai air show. The airline has not yet announced its engine selection. Spirit's order for 45 A320 neo aircraft was booked in December 2011. The firming up of the additional 30 A320s in January brings the total new firm order to 75.
“For seven years we have been very successfully flying the A320 Family,” said Ben Baldanza, President and CEO of Spirit Airlines. “The aircraft have been successful from every perspective – economy, environmental impact, comfort and efficiency. With more A320s and now the A320neo on their way to Spirit, we look forward to building on all the positives we’ve experienced so far.”
“When these newly ordered aircraft are delivered, the size of Spirit’s Airbus fleet will be close to triple what it is today,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “It’s a high compliment and testament to the growing efficiencies of our single-aisle family when an airline chooses it exclusively to propel their success into the future.”
The new aircraft will be used on Spirit’s growing network of flights in the domestic United States, Caribbean and Latin America
The A320neo is a new engine option for the A320 Family entering service from 2015 and incorporates latest generation engines and large "Sharklet" wing tip devices, which together will deliver 15 percent in fuel savings. This reduction in fuel burn is equivalent to 1.4m liters of fuel – the consumption of 1,000 mid-size cars. This saves 3,600 metric tons of C02 per aircraft per year, the amount absorbed by 240,000 mature trees.
Over 8,300 A320 Family aircraft have been ordered and some 5,000 delivered to more than 340 customers and operators worldwide reaffirming its position as the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family. The A320neo has over 95 percent airframe commonality making it an easy fit into existing fleets while offering up to 500 nautical miles (950 kilometres) more range or two tonnes more payload at a given range.

Air Namibia expands fleet with order for two A319s
Airbus eco-efficient aircraft to replace 737-500s
Air Namibia, the Windhoek based national airline of the Republic of Namibia, has ordered two new Airbus A319 aircraft. Seating 112 passengers in a two class layout, the aircraft will bring new levels of comfort to regional routes from Windhoek to other major African cities.
Air Namibia already operates two leased A319s on regional routes, and two A340-300 aircraft on its international route between Windhoek to Frankfurt, Germany. Airbus aircraft share a unique cockpit and operational commonality, allowing airlines to use the same pool of pilots, cabin crew and maintenance engineers, bringing operational flexibility and resulting in significant cost savings.
“Our in-service experience with Airbus aircraft has confirmed that the A319 is the ideal aircraft for Air Namibia’s regional routes,” said Theo M. Namases, Acting CEO of Air Namibia. “The efficiency of our new aircraft, together with their commonality with our existing fleet will provide a strong basis for our continued growth and contribution to the Namibian tourist industry.”
“We are delighted to welcome Air Namibia as a new customer for the A320 family,” said John Leahy Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “Air Namibia’s decision to invest in new A319s is a great endorsement for the efficiency of the aircraft and Airbus’ family concept.”
The A320 Family, which includes the A318, A319, A320 and A321, is recognized as the benchmark single-aisle aircraft family. Each aircraft features fly by wire controls and all share a unique cockpit and operational commonality across the range. More than 8,300 A320 Family aircraft have already been ordered and almost 5000 delivered to more than 340 customers and operators worldwide reaffirming its position as the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family. With proven reliability and extended servicing periods, the A320 Family has the lowest operating costs of any single aisle aircraft.

ALAFCO orders additional 35 A320neo
ALAFCO Aviation Lease And Finance Company, the Kuwait-based international aircraft leasing company, has finalised a purchase order for 35 A320neo Family aircraft bringing its total backlog for the type to 85.
The firm contract is an increase of the previous agreement signed at the 2011 Dubai Airshow for 50 A320neo aircraft.
“After a full analysis, we concluded that the A320neo will continue to be in strong demand, therefore, we are seizing the opportunity to secure an additional 35 aircraft to meet the future requirements of our customers. The A320neo is the market’s favourite single-aisle aircraft family,” said Ahmad A. Alzabin, ALAFCO Chairman & CEO. “The significant fuel burn savings it offers, combined with the operational reliability and cost effectiveness of the A320 Family, make it an absolute “must have” in our portfolio.”
“Higher fuel prices means airlines require fuel efficient aircraft and with the A320neo offering a 15 per cent fuel burn reduction, it is the ideal investment. The A320neo reduces operating costs whilst enabling airlines to offer the best cabin comfort levels,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer Customers. “This significant order from ALFACO confirms that the neo ticks all the right boxes and is clearly the best product on the market.”
Over 8,300 A320 Family aircraft have already been ordered and some 5,000 delivered to more than 350 customers and operators worldwide reaffirming its position as the world’s best-selling single-aisle aircraft family. Bhutan’s Drukair orders an Airbus A319 with Sharklets
Drukair, the flag carrier of landlocked Eastern Himalayan mountain Kingdom of Bhutan, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for an Airbus A319 aircraft fitted w ith fuel saving Sharklets to complement its existing fleet of two A319s.
Surrounded by a tall wall of mountains and located at an altitude of over 7,000 feet, Drukair operates out of one of the world’s most challenging airports at Paro, where approach is by Visual Flight Rules (VFR) only. This means the crew can only fly by vision, which requires a high performance and responsive aircraft. The A319 is the largest aircraft operating out of Paro.
“For any landlocked country, aviation is the gateway to the world and its economic importance cannot be overestimated,” said Dasho Sonam Tshering Drukair Chairman. “The Airbus A319 is the largest aircraft flying to Bhutan, and it has allowed us to welcome even more visitors in comfort and style.”
Drukair will deploy the new aircraft to increase capacity on existing regional routes as well as to open up new services to Singapore and Hong Kong.

Garuda places firm order for 18 CRJ1000s
Garuda Indonesia has placed an order for 18 Bombardier CRJ1000s, with options for another 18 of the regional jets.
The firm order includes six aircraft directly from the airframer, and another 12 from leasing company Nordic Aviation. Bombardier confirmed that Garuda was the unidentified customer for six CRJ1000s and 18 options that it announced on 10 February.
Five aircraft will join the fleet in the fourth quarter of this year, and another 12 in 2013, said Garuda president and CEO Emirsyah Satar. The airline will make a decision on the options before 2015, he added.
"This is part of our fleet expansion and rejuvenation programme," said Satar. "This is a very efficient aircraft, which I believe will provide an additional level of comfort to our customers on domestic and regional operations."
The aircraft, which will be in a two-class configuration, will be based in Tier II Indonesian cities such as Makassar, Medan and Balikpapa. They will be used on domestic routes, as well as international routes such as Makassar-Singapore.

Le 8 perd du volume et le 9...JAL orders 20 787-9s
Japan Airlines has ordered 10 Boeing 787-9s and converted orders for 10 787-8s into the -9 model.
The airline also has options for 10 more 787-9s as part of the latest deal, it said in a statement. With this, JAL has 25 firm orders for the 787-8 and 20 for the 787-9, with 20 options for both types.
The airline plans to deploy the 787-9s on medium to long haul international routes after the 2015 fiscal year, which ends on 31 March 2016.
The aircraft will help it to significantly bring down its operating costs, and allow it to take advantage of the additional slots at Tokyo's Narita and Haneda airports.
JAL had been due to take delivery of its first 787-8 around end-February, but it said earlier this month that this had been indefinitely delayed.

Singapore, February 14, 2012 – Belavia of Minsk, Belarus, has completed the transaction for two EMBRAER 175s, as part of a fleet renewal initiative to replace smaller-capacity equipment and older, larger capacity aircraft. The airline has leased the two E-Jets from Air Lease Corporation of Los Angeles, USA. The first E175 is expected to be delivered in
September 2012.
The carrier identified the need for 80-seat jet capacity after thorough analysis of a growth plan that includes new destinations and increased flight frequencies. The E175s will be configured with 12 Business Class and 64 Economy Class seats so that the airline can offer a consistent, dual class product standard among all aircraft types in its fleet.
Paulo Cesar de Souza e Silva, Embraer President, Commercial Aviation, said: “Belavia is another excellent example of an airline which has embraced the E-Jets philosophy of fleet right sizing. It joins a growing list of E-Jet customers in Eastern Europe that have discovered the enormous potential of the aircraft to add capacity that is ideally suited to markets in that region without downgrading the service level they offer in their narrow-bodies.”
Embraer’s presence in Eastern Europe, the Ukraine and Central Asia is steadily increasing. Six other airlines in those regions have added E-Jets to their fleets: Montenegro Airlines, Air Moldova, Bulgaria Air, Aerosvit, Wind Rose Aviation and Air Astana.
“We have taken a strategic decision to phase out our old fleet and opt for a new aircraft to complement our narrow-body jets,” said Anatoly Gusarov, Director General of Belavia. “The E175 perfectly suits our growth strategy to test new routes where it would be uneconomical to operate larger aircraft.”
Since entering revenue service in 2004, Embraer has received more than 1,050 E-Jet orders from 60 customers in 40 countries, and delivered over 800 of them around the world. The versatile 70- to 120-seat, four-aircraft family is flying with low cost airlines, on regional routes, and with mainline carriers. Collectively, E-Jets have accumulated 6 million flight hours and transported 250 million passengers.

Lion Air orders 27 ATR 72-600s
Indonesia's Lion Air has inked an order for 27 ATR 72-600s, in a deal worth $610 million, for its regional subsidiary Wings Air.
The aircraft, to be delivered by 2015, will make Wings Air the largest ATR operator worldwide.
With the new order, the carrier will have a fleet of 60 turboprops, consisting of 20 ATR 72-500s and 40 ATR 72-600s.
Financing for the aircraft has been guaranteed and Lion Air expects to receive its first -600 in November, said its president director Rusdi Kirana, at the Singapore Airshow.
Wings Air has another 17 ATR aircraft undelivered from earlier orders.
The 44 turboprops to be delivered to Wings Air will develop new routes departing mainly from Sumatera, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua islands. Some of the aircraft will also replace and complement Wings Air's MD-80s and Lion Air's Boeing 737s operating from these airports.
Lion Air already made news at the air show when it signed a firm order for 201 Boeing 737 Max and ordered an additional 29 Boeing 737-900 ERs in a combined deal worth $22.4 billion.

PIA orders five 777-300ERs in $1.5bn deal
The airframer said the purchase is valued at nearly $1.5 billion at list prices.
"Deal" de compensation pour amadouer PIA ? Ce serait une manière comme une autre de fidéliser le client !
Oui ! Voir question et remarque ci-dessus !In 2002, Pakistan's flag carrier became the world's first airline to purchase all three passenger models of the 777 family and in that year was also the launch customer for the 777-200LR.
A suivre ! ;)The carrier has a total of nine 777s in its fleet according to Flightglobal's Ascend Online database.
PIA has accumulated losses of PRs120 billion ($1.32 billion) over the last 10 years.

Air New Zealand converts options for two 787-9s
Air New Zealand has converted options for two Boeing 787-9 aircraft, despite still being "hindered by the delay of the 787".
Speaking as he unveiled the airline's half-year accounts for the six months ending 31 December 2011, chief executive Rob Fyfe said Air New Zealand has converted two 787-9 options, bringing its orders for the type to 10.
The carrier has agreed on new contractual terms and a modified delivery schedule with Boeing and its first 787-9 is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2014.
Fyfe said although the airline is benefiting from more efficient aircraft such as the Boeing 777-300ER, it is "still hindered by the delay of the 787".
He added: "Despite the extremely frustrating and costly delays, we strongly believe the 787-9 is the right aircraft for Air New Zealand and worth the wait."
Interim net profit for the half-year fell by 61% to NZ$38 million ($31.8 million), down from NZ$98 million in the corresponding period a year ago.
Normalised earnings before tax were at NZ$33 million, down by 71% against the same period a year ago, the carrier said. Under New Zealand reporting rules, normalised earnings exclude net gains or losses on derivatives.
Air New Zealand carried 0.6% fewer passengers in the half-year, compared with the corresponding period in 2010. RPKs declined by 2.6% and ASKs declined by 1.0%. Passenger load factor declined by 1.4 percentage points to 82.8%.
"Acknowledging this disappointing result, we have already commenced a series of initiatives to improve the airline's profitability by more than $195 million per annum by [Fiscal Year 20]15 through a combination of cost reduction, improved efficiencies and revenue growth," said Fyfe.
"The price of jet fuel has doubled over the last three years, but a weak global economy is hindering our ability to pass on these higher fuel costs to passengers," added Fyfe. "Therefore, we have been moving quickly to adapt, to gain greater efficiencies and to develop into a stronger, more profitable business."
Other factors the carrier gave for the weak result were the continued weakness in the travel markets of Europe and Japan. It also expressed concerns about overcapacity in the industry.
The carrier will cut 441 jobs by the end of its current fiscal year, said Fyfe, adding that 266 involve the non-replacement of roles and the non-renewal of contracts, of which 193 have already been achieved. The carrier will begin consultations with the affected staff on the remaining 175 roles to be cut.

China Southern says buys 10 Boeing B777-300ER planes
Feb 28 (Reuters) - China Southern Airlines Co Ltd , one of the country's top three carriers, said on Tuesday that it has agreed to buy 10 Boeing Co B777-300ER aircraft with a total list price of $2.98 billion.
Each plane had a list price of $298 million, although the actual cost of the aircraft would be significantly lower as Boeing provided price concessions, the airline said in a statement to the Hong Kong stock exchange.

Eh, oui !
