JAL s'enfonce dans les pertes d'exploitation.
Sur Airwise :
Japan Airlines plans to terminate two international routes and to cut the number of flights on another eight at the end of October in response to falling demand, the Nikkei business daily reported on Friday.
The airline will also cut the number of flights on six domestic routes, the paper said, adding these routes are money-losing services that have been flying with only 40-60 percent of their seats filled.
The firm is likely to cut more flights by the end of this financial year ending in March, the paper said.
The company is expected to report an operating loss of about JPY90 billion yen (USD$943.4 million) in the first quarter ended in June, the Nikkei said.

Réorganisation chez JAL.
Sur Transport weekly :
The Japan Airlines Group (JAL) announced today that the new corporate organization structure, which aims to improve passenger experience, consolidate intermediary functions in order to improve productivity of the Group's business practices, and to increase efficiency and competitiveness, will take effect from October 1, 2009.
A brand new Customer Experience Division has been established to centralize the planning-functions involving the hardware, software and human-relation aspects of customer satisfaction.
This division will lead the coordination between Passenger Marketing, Airport, and Cabin Attendants divisions, managing the analysis, planning, implementation and feedback stages in the process of maintaining and improving all aspects of customer service.
It will set the basic policies and strategies in maximizing JAL's value to customers, and coordinate closely with the Corporate Safety Division to forge a strong foundation for safe operations and customer satisfaction - the highest
priorities of the JAL Group.
The restructure has also streamlined numerous intermediary functions within the organization in order to speed up decision-making processes that will strengthen the Group's overall efficiency, as well as to minimize the backend
and overhead costs which is a measure in line with JAL's cost-reduction plans.
Reorganizations were made to the Corporate Planning, Passenger Marketing, Cargo & Mail, Flight Operations, Engineering, Airports and Human Resource divisions,
as well as the general administrative departments within each division.
Subsequently, the number of function groups within the Company will be reduced by almost 25 percent.
In the continuous pursuit of higher efficiency and improvement in operational skills through shared-knowledge, the reorganization includes a merger of three of the Group's 100%-owned subsidiaries that provide airport-related services -
JAL Sky Services Co., Ltd, JALSky Tokyo Co., Ltd and JALWave Co., Ltd, forming the new company, JAL Sky Co., Ltd. This is in addition to the announced merger of JAL's 4 aircraft-maintenance companies that will result in the new JAL
Engineering Co., Ltd slated to start operations from October 2009.
Another amalgamation of the 100% JAL-owned travel-related subsidiaries JALPAK Co., Ltd, JAL Sales Co., Ltd, JAL Sales Western Japan Co., Ltd, JAL Sales Kyushu Co., Ltd, and JAL Sales Hokkaido Co., Ltd. is aimed at strengthening the Group's overall travel sales and planning capabilities.
With the clear objective of improving profitability and securing sustainable growth in the future, the JAL Group will continue reviewing its business model and implement necessary changes that will strengthen and rebuild its business
foundations.

NEW YORK, 13 sept 2009 (AFP)

D'Airwise ( Reuters ) :
Japan Airlines will propose a plan to current and former employees to reduce pension benefits and spread its obligations over a longer period, that will result in a profit this fiscal year, the Nikkei business daily reported.
JAL hopes to generate a profit of JPY88 billion yen in the year ending March 2010 through the lowered pension obligations, the business daily said, without citing sources.
JAL's pension benefit rate currently stands at 4.5 percent, and in the detailed proposal to roughly 9,000 former employees, JAL will likely seek approval to lower the pension benefit rate below 4 percent, the paper said.
For its 17,000 current employees, JAL hopes to lower the benefit rate to below 2 percent. The airline is likely to present its proposal at a meeting of the corporate pension fund's financial committee that is due to be held on Friday of this week or next, the paper said.
Even if its proposal is accepted by pension members, the company will still need support from its lenders and relevant authorities. If any of them object, JAL may withdraw the plan, the paper added.
Earlier, Japan's new transport minister, Seiji Maehara, said he would review turnaround plans for Japan Airlines as bidders circle the loss-making carrier.

The JAL Group announced today, further revisions to its route and flight frequency plan for international passenger operations for the second half of FY2009.
Progressing with restructuring efforts by reviewing its overall network coverage, JAL will withdraw its once-daily service on the international route between Osaka (Kansai) and Dalian from October 25, 2009.
JAL still connects Japan with Dalian by a single daily flight between Tokyo (Narita) and the Chinese city.

Des fonds publics sous certaines formes, à certaines conditions.
Sur le site Airwise :
A government task force set up to help revive Japan Airlines said on Friday it would review the carrier's turnaround plans from scratch and that splitting it into "good" and "bad" parts was an option.
JAL, swamped by USD$15 billion of debt and headed for its second straight annual loss, asked on Thursday for a government bailout, but the new transport minister withheld his support on concerns the airline's cost-cutting plans would not go far enough.
JAL shares continued to drop, falling another 7 percent, as the former state-owned national flag carrier's fate remains highly uncertain.
The plunge in JAL's stock price has wiped out nearly JPY100 billion yen in market value in the past two days, taking its total capitalisation down to JPY361 billion -- nearly half that of smaller rival All Nippon Airways.
Delta Air Lines and a rival group of carriers led by American Airlines are holding separate talks to invest in and deepen ties with JAL, eyeing growth in Japan and the rest of Asia.
The idea of breaking JAL into "good" and "bad" parts, similar to the restructuring of US automaker General Motors, has been floated by creditors, banking sources have said.
But the task force also reiterated Transport Minister Seiji Maehara's stance that bankruptcy was not being considered.
"We are not thinking about using legal procedures. We can work things out among interested parties," the head of the task force, Shinjiro Takagi, told reporters.
Takagi, an adviser for Nomura Securities, also served as chairman of a state-backed corporate turnaround body, the Industrial Revitalisation Corporation of Japan, under which retailer Daiei and cosmetics maker Kanebo were reconstructed.
"JAL could go through schemes similar to what Daiei and Kanebo did," a banking source familiar with the matter said.
Kanebo was split into profitable and loss-making segments while Daiei was rescued by a rival retailer after reducing its debts.
The task force was assembled to draw up restructuring plans for JAL by the end of November after the struggling carrier's own plans failed to satisfy government officials.
The government's Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirofumi Hirano said urgent action was needed but also added that the government was not necessarily assuming there would be an injection of public funds.
"The stock price is falling .. We need to work on this urgently," Hirano told a news conference.
Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama told a group of reporters in Pittsburgh, where he is attending a G20 meeting, that public money might be needed to rescue JAL.
"Public funds may become necessary in some form. But as to the scheme, I need to consult with Mr. Maehara and reach a conclusion in the shortest time possible."
JAL's shares dropped 7.6 percent to 133 yen, following a 16 percent dive on Thursday and underperforming the benchmark Nikkei average, which lost 2.6 percent.
