Sydney - Air safety authorities are investigating how two passenger planes were put on a collision course over the far north of Australia last week. Australian Transport Safety Bureau said Monday that it was unlikely the planes had been close to colliding, given that neither of their automatic warning systems had been activated.

The flight crew of a Cathay Pacific Airbus A330, travelling south to Melbourne from Hong Kong, questioned the air traffic controller, who confirmed a mistake had been made.

The other plane involved in the December 22 incident was a Virgin Blue Boeing 737 flying from Melbourne at the same altitude of 37,000 feet (11,000 metres).

The Airbus was ordered to climb to 38,000 feet.

"There was a breakdown of separation standards," the bureau said in a statement on its website. "The investigation is continuing."

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating a separation incident between aircraft operated by Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific and Australia's [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] over Australia's Northern Territories on 22 December.
At 0252 CST (Central Standard Time), a southbound Cathay [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] aircraft on the Hong Kong-Melbourne route and a northbound Virgin Blue [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien]-800 aircraft on the Melbourne-Darwin route were on "the reciprocal track also at non-standard FL370", says the ATSB.
The ASTB has classified the incident as serious.
"When the crew of the [Vous devez être inscrit et connecté pour voir ce lien] questioned the controller, the controller instructed the A330 crew to climb to FL380 and cleared the aircraft to divert to right of track," says ATSB. "The crew of the 737 then advised the controller they were diverting 10NM right of track. There was a breakdown of separation standards. The investigation is continuing."
Cathay Pacific confirms that the incident took place and the "appropriate avoidance action was taken by the Cathay Pacific crew." It has filed a report with the Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department.

An El-Al passenger jet bound for New York nearly collided with an Air France airliner over the skies of Belgrade on Monday, Channel 2 revealed on Tuesday evening

According to the report, the Serbian air controller erroneously instructed the Air France airplane to fly on a route already used by the El Al plane, thus putting the jets on a collision course.

The two planes were about to crash in midair, but emergency alarms alerted both pilots and the El-Al plane changed course at the last moment, when the distance between the aircraft was only 300 meters.

Serbian authorities reportedly claimed that the Serbian air controller was responsible for the incident and aviation authorities there launched an investigation into the near-accident.

According to the report, El Al commended the Israeli pilot, stressing that at no point during the incidents were the passengers, crew or airplane in danger.

Et cette source de poursuivre : "L'équipage de l'avion français avait correctement répété les instructions de descendre à une altitude de 35.000 pieds (10.668 mètres), mais, pour des raisons qui n'ont toujours pas été établies, l'appareil a continué à descendre au dessous de l'altitude requise et approuvée" en survolant Belgrade.

Interrogée par l'AFP sur une éventuelle erreur de pilotage, Air France a répondu que les pilotes avaient "appliqué les procédures". Elle a ajouté avoir "ouvert une enquête interne et transmis tous les éléments relatifs à ce vol" à la Direction générale de l'aviation civile et au Bureau d'enquêtes et d'analyses (BEA), autorités de contrôle aérien en France.

Un Boeing 757 de la compagnie American Airlines a dû se poser en urgence dans la nuit de mardi à mercredi sur l’aéroport de Bangor, dans le Maine, au nord-est des Etats-Unis. A l’origine de cet atterrissage d’urgence, une fuite d’eau. Une avarie qui avait été apparemment décelée dès le décollage de l’avion. Un passager témoigne ce matin…

L’avion avait quitté l’aéroport de JFK vers 23h00. A son bord, 180 personnes, dont la moitié de Français. Le début du vol se passe, à première vue, sans incident. Mais bientôt le pilote informe les passagers d’un problème d’eau dans les toilettes, en raison cause d’une fuite. Une avarie apparemment mineure selon lui.

Le commandant de bord s’interroge alors. Faut-il faire demi-tour ou poursuivre le vol ? "Et après 5-10 minutes, il nous fait, d’un ton très banal, ‘Bon, on va continuer’… " , explique Claude Levy, passager de ce vol New York-Paris, joint ce matin par France info.

Un choix pas forcément judicieux si l’on en juge par la suite des événements relatés par Claude Levy. " Dix minutes après, on a entendu un ’Bang’ ! Et tout d’un coup l’avion est devenu poussif ", raconte le passager.

Il semble que le réacteur droit de l’avion ait été endommagé par un bloc de glace qui se serait créé en raison de la fuite. Résultat : l’avion doit se poser en urgence à Bangor, dans l’Etat du Maine. Un atterrissage d’urgence fort heureusement sans incident. Mais côté passagers, " on a eu la trouille ! "

A passenger, Paul Lasiuk, 46, of Chicago, described himself as more shocked than scared. “You have no choice,” he said. “You’re going to go through this.”
That Mr. Lasiuk and his fellow passengers were able to describe their emotions — as well as the fairly graceful landing with only two landing wheels in place — was testament to the abilities of the five-person crew, they said later.

The passengers and the crew slid out of the plane on inflatable emergency exit chutes and were taken by bus to an airline lounge in the main terminal, where they recounted the story to investigators and waited for their luggage.
When everyone left about two hours later, the passengers were full of praise for the crew, speaking with amazement at how well everything had worked out.
“I’ve had a lot of worse landings at Newark before,” said Mr. Lasiuk, who lives in Chicago and was traveling on business. “It was unbelievably smooth.”
Jim Falk, 40, who lives in New Jersey, swore that he would buy a bottle of Champagne for the pilot, whose name was not immediately released. “The pilot did a beautiful job,” Mr. Falk said. “He didn’t put it in the water like the other pilot did, but he should be commended.”
Moritz Loew, 39, who also lives in New Jersey, was jubilant as he left the airport shortly after noon.
“What’s a great landing?” he asked, laughing as he set himself up for his own punch line. “One that you walk away from.”

Un A380 de la compagnie Emirates s'est retrouvé cloué au sol sur un aéroport sud-coréen en raison d'un problème mécanique, le dernier en date d'une série de défaillances pour le nouvel avion d'Airbus.

L'appareil devait décoller hier soir pour Dubaï mais le vol a dû être annulé, ont déclaré ces sources à l'aéroport international d'Incheon (ouest de Séoul). "Un problème technique a été détecté dans les systèmes de carburant de l'avion", a déclaré un responsable local du service de presse d'Emirates.

L'annulation a laissé en rade 420 passagers qui ont passé la nuit dans un hôtel proche de l'aéroport et doivent être transférés sur un autre vol, après dix-neuf heures de retard, a ajouté le responsable.

Two planes of the airline Ryanair have collided slightly over 11:10 GMT hours in an area prior to the runway Airport Girona-Costa Brava, on their way to the runway for take-off start.

One aircraft has touched lightly with his left wing tail of another plane that was in that area waiting to receive permission to access it.
The planes affected are those for bound flight FR9111 with destination Turin-Caselle (TRN/LIMF) and FR9727 Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (LPA/GCLP).
